Project description

MOON BASE
(MODULE FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS)
Our group has focused its work on the research of power plants for the operation of the
lunar base.
Our lunar base will be equipped with solar thermal panels and photovoltaic solar panels,
both exploit solar energy but in a totally different way. Thermal panels convert to solar
radiation into thermal energy that can be transferred to a thermal accumulator for later use
such as producing hot water or heating an environment.
Scientists are studying a particular type of solar cells in which would reside tiny crystals of
pyrite, sulfur and iron, elements easily found in the regulation of the Moon. The goal is to
create a technology formed by several layers of polymers and integrate it into each pyrite
crystal as large as a grain of sand, able to absorb sunlight and convert it into energy. It
would be a monogram-state solar cell in which every tiny crystal would function as an
individual solar cell, even if the energy generated by each of these were not so much, in a
normal-sized module there would be billions and there would be no limits in size and
shape.
It is essential to consider how to support people in places so far from our planet, trying to
produce electricity as a raw material traceable on site.
Moonlight is nothing more than reflected sunlight, photovoltaic solar panels convert
moonlight into electricity. This can be harnessed to power photovoltaic cells, they normally
produce 3450 kW per day, would produce 10 kilowatts of power on the moon’s ground.
