Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

It is a lunar base with an operational complex on the surface and an underground housing complex. It includes a greenhouse with three levels, one above ground and two underground, a communications tower, an operational center with panoramic views and an exploration rover.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar lava tubes

Why did you choose this location?

Because it facilitates the construction of underground levels and is a natural protection against solar radiation.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We would use materials that are easy to transport so that they could be materialized on the moon, for example, through 3D printing and we would use all the material we could obtain on the moon to, for example, cover housing and operational modules.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Through the process of filtering lunar ice cores to extract water.

Through greenhouses and also bringing in regular missions that kind of food for astronauts already in use on the ISS, for example.

Through the best known energy source that is the Sun, captured through solar panels.

We can possibly have air in the moon by extracting the oxygen through a process called electrolysisthe. Astronauts and scientists could use this method wich the lunar regolith is placed in a metal basket with molten calcium chloride salt and heated to about 1,742 degrees F. At this point, the regolith is still solid, but an electrical current is applied and extracts the oxygen.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Well, the astronaut Lourenço fulfills the day as if he were on Planet Earth. Get up at 6:30 am, have an energetic breakfast in the bar. Then he goes to the operations center where he is responsible for the daily exploration rover mission. He designs and supervises the execution of the work. After lunch, send the samples collected to the laboratory and prepare the next day. Have dinner and socialize with the rest of the crew and, at 10 pm, go to sleep.
