Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Pop Up Moon Camp. It starts of as a little inflatable mini house which has tubes coming out. These tubes lead into little inflatable domes. In these domes are little plants called Areca Palms I have chosen these plants because they are the plants that produce the most oxygen in the world. The oxygen that is being produced by the plants is going into the little house and the people in it will breathe out carbon dioxide for the plants to make oxygen. To get water There will be these remote-control robots that can collect water. The first one is a laser robot to get rid of the moon rocks and makes a hole, the second robot is a drill robot so it can drill further and make it easier for the next robot’s job. The final robot’s job is to vacuum so it will suck up all the ice. Then before the ice enters a big tube made for the ice it must go through a sieve so the ice can get through, but moon rocks and dust cannot because they’re too big. I think it is really important that it is inflatable because it can fit on the rocket easily.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

The robots can get ice from the crater easily and the edges of the crater are always in the sun for our solar panels.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

Everything would be inflatable exempt from the robot and the solar panels. I choose this because it is super easy to put into a rocket and can inflate very quickly with a compressed air cylinder. If a meteor hit it there would be a rubber material over it and because it is super stretchy it wouldn’t snap.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water would come from the ice my robots collect.

In the vacuum robot is 122 litres of water, 61 goes to the humans the other you can make a pond, but you only need to do that once a month. The fish will be a tilapia because they grow so fast so you can eat them quicker. And then the fish can eat the left-over plants.

Power would come from the solar panels on the edge of the crater.

Air comes from the plants in the domes.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

You wake up in the morning brush your teeth get the robot to get you water. Then put on your space suit and collect the ice in  the robots ice bag and put in the next empty ice bag and go back inside and do your work for the day, including science experiments and making sue everything is working fully.
