Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021
In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description
There will be five spheres linked to each other. Inside the moon camp, we will have an hall, a dressing room with suits and helmets. There will be also a gymnasium and a kitchen with a 3D printer where they can print meat, a bathroom and a place for growing food. External communications should be done in the control room. |

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?
Close to the Lunar Poles Why did you choose this location?
We chose to build our camp near the Lunar Poles due to the presence of water, and also because we rely on solar energy and the sun exposure is maximum here. How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?
Our moon camp consists of a main nave linked to four smaller capsules connected to each other. The aim of this architecture is to allow a faster access to all the rooms. Regarding construction, we will start building the main structure (metal mesh), 3D printing the outer surface after with materials such as carbon fiber. For protecting ourselves from asteroids, robots will be used to move and assembled materials, with the aim of engineer a protective layer. After this is done, we should be able to move inside shielded from dangerous radiations and impacts of spatial objects. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

We are going to mine and melt the water ice present in the poles using robots. The robots will take the water to a hot spot in the Moon and wait for it to melt. As soon as it is in liquid state, it will be filtered for us to use. |
We opted to grow spirulina and some vegetables in a greenhouse and to 3D print plant-based meat. |
We will install flexible solar panels in the areas with the highest incidence of solar radiation. |
We will grow spirulina and other vegetables as a way to produce food but also oxygen. |
Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts
Astronauts will travel in a space-rocket, bringing food and water with them to ensure their survival during the moon camp construction. We will have robots to help us build the structures where we will grow food, produce oxygen, clean water and store energy. At last, we will build a protective layer against meteorites and radiation and a communication center. |
