Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our base is covered by a dome that is able to protect the inside, it is resistant to all kinds of materials, temperatures, etc It is also capable of simulating the Earth’ gravity, inside the dome it will always be a safe area. If at any time you want to get out of the dome you can open a door.. At our base we can find three small houses so that the astronauts can settle down as if they were on Earth. We have some water containers that through a system of pipes that make possible for the water to reach the houses and the fountain. Our garden has a technology that adopts the correct temperatures for the maintenance of our food. The astronauts who go there to work will have to train and even have fun for a better concentration, that is why we have a gym in which we can find several sections: a climbing wall, climbing a rope, stairs and climbing a rope with obstacles. Once up to go down to the surface again they have a slide that will make a raid and fun descent. The slide sticks out of the dome for better views of the outside. We also have our solar panels that allow us to use energy. And finally, as we will explain better below, we have the oxygen container that will allow breathing without cylinders for a more daily life.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Ocean of storms

Why did you choose this location?

We chose Ocean of storms because of its peculiar name and characteristics. As it is the largest dark spot on the moon, we can build a huge Moon Camp. Also, in the future, we would be able to extend the Camp.

Because of its flat surface, it would be easier to land the spaceships and transport the materials needed in the construction.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We can transport builders, specialized machines needed in the construction and materials in spaceships, and build it directly on the moon. Some spare parts will be shipped in special ships in case any of the original ones are damaged.

New materials have been created. One of them is called Flaxus: a more resistant and lighter material than steel. It will be used to build houses, vegetable patches and gyms. For the dome, we will use a material called Siriux. It’s like glass but stronger and more mechanically resistant. It can be used for several centuries, and it won’t break.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water will be transported from the Earth to the Moon. There, it will be keeped inside some containers. Through some pipes, it will arrive at several places. One of them is a fountain situated in the middle of the Moon Camp. It will be used to drink. Other places will be the houses. There, astronauts can smarten up and make residual waters. These type of water will be purified through some chemical and physical methods.

The food that we will bring from the earth will be turned into seeds. The seeds will be kept inside the garden and the astronauts will be able to decide which seed they want to grow for food. Thanks to the mechanism of the orchard dome, all the seeds will have their proper temperature for their growth. Depending on the choice of our lunar inhabitants, the seed process will be faster or slower, but thanks to new technologies it will last 3 hours at most. . The food that is ingested can be replaced if a piece of that item is saved, so nothing will never be lacking. You can always choose what to eat!

We have put several solar panels throughout the camp. It will be the main way to obtain energy. As a precaution, we have created a tank in which the unused energy will be stored. It will be found in the climbing wall.

We get the air from the oxygen tank. The oxygen will be brought from Earth in containers of air. It will move to the container installed on the moon. The oxygen will leave the container through a small door, in this way the habitants can breathe while they are inside the dome. It will be returned to the tank through the device that connects a tube with the container. This collects the oxygen and generates more. It is a constant process.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

When we wake up, we will get up and leave the house. We will go to the vegetable patch, where we will have breakfast. When finished, we will make the necessary checks to see that the entire water, oxygen and energy recycling system works.

This will take all morning. After eating, you can rest and digest with ease. After a few hours, we will go to the gym. In it we will find various activities. We will have dinner and go to sleep.
