Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our Moon Camp project, called “Apocalypse” consists of several installations that are necessary for the survival and permanent settlement of the human on the lunar surface. An energy park consisting of solar power panels and a nuclear reactor provides the base with electric power. In terms of water, a water extraction installation was designed that mines and processes water from lunar soil. through a pipeline network water can be transferred to the central base where it can be used for the everyday needs of the lunar inhabitants and towards the greenhouse garden where lunar crops are grown. A satellite was designed on orbit around the moon to facilitate communication with Earth. Finally, all inhabited installations are surrounded by a cover that protects the inhabitants from the cosmic radiation.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

Close to the Lunar poles, water can be mined from the soil. In addition, on the Lunar poles the Sun almost always shines, and the sun radiation is needed for our greenhouse plants to grow and for the solar panels.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

Supplies from Earth are nescecery but matereals from the Lunar surface can be used as well.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water will be mined from the Lunar poles, prossesed and filtered in order to be used.

Astronaut food as wall as vegetables grown in the greenhouses will provide our astronauts with energy!

Power will be primerly provided from the solar panels and secondarly from the nuclear reactor.

Air can be provided from water electrolysis.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

After waking up our lunar inhabitant will use the toilet knowing that all biological products will be recycled and used either for water or as fertilizers. Then she will work out for at least 1 hour on a running wheel that is also a generator producing small amounts of electric power. Then, it is time for some healthy breakfast, provided by the base’s greenhouse. Subsequently she will start working. Our inhabitant can be a scientist or an engineer. After 4 hours of work, she should work out for at least 1 hour and then it is lanch time in the dining room where all the inhabitants spend time together. After that another 4 hours of working followed by 1 hour of working out. Finally it is time for dinner and afterwards it is sleeping time.
