Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The name “Crystal Societatem Castorea” translates to Crystal Beaver Society in Latin. This is because we are particularly fascinated by how a beaver builds its structures and the crystal’s unique shape.

Our moon camp provides a healthy lifestyle for our visiting citizens. Part of the structure is built underground. We have a living room, toilet, gymnasium, sleeping etc.. to maintain a long safe stay for our visitors. On the moon’s surface we have a research center and a mining area to learn how to live more efficiently in space. We also have a comms center, resource shelter, greenhouse to create the living environment for the people.

We can end overpopulation, and start the first step to becoming an interstellar society/civilization.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

We chose the North Lunar Pole for 3 reasons. Reason 1 is that it has a unique magnetic field. We will benefit from asteroids that crash to the pole, as we will have metals and other resources. Reason 2 is the amount of sunlight provided on this side of the moon. We will have more energy to light the zone during dark times. The last reason is the ice caps located there. We will get plants from earth to have more variety and we will have drinking, bath and toilet water. Also, we can use an electrolysis technique to get oxygen for our artificial atmosphere.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We will use metals harvested from the asteroids to create most structures. We will use compressed regolith and lunar soil to coat the structures and protect them from solar radiation.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Ice caps located in the north lunar pole and water
transported from earth that get stored in resource center

Fish tank to produce fertilizer and eat the fish when they are all grown up
Greenhouse filled with plants that require little water and little CO2

Solar panels will absorb part of light given by sun
If we learn to harness solar radiation we can use it as an energy source

Oxygen Given off from plants after gas exchange
Electrolysis of water to create oxygen and hydrogen.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

You wake up after a great night sleep. You bounce of your bed and wear your spacesuit and magnetic shoes. You then go to the bathroom and brushed your teeth, neatly combed your hair, and off to the cafeteria you headed. You ate your favorite fruit salad and drank the fresh moon water. You go gather the food given from the trees and unload the oxygen tanks. You go talk to your children from the comms center, and you describe life on the moon. You and your team gather the crates of mined asteroids and place the in the resource center in storage unit 5. You do your 1 hour easy workout on obstacle courses 1,2 and 3. Lastly, you eat dinner and go to bed and then repeat a wonderful moon camp living experience
