Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Astronauts will have to test how to live on the Moon so that they can later live on Mars. They will have to test and find new technologies, use the resources offered by the Moon to grow plants, generate energy and create an atmosphere within the Moon Camp.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar lava tubes

Why did you choose this location?

In the north we can find lava which can be useful in protecting astronauts from harmful rays. The south offers relief that can help build the lunar camp.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

At first, the astronauts will stay in the lava tubes. Later, to build the moon camp, they will use moon dust mixed with water in the rocket. A giant 3D printer will be needed to build the camp quickly and easily.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

To get some water we’ll recycle perspiration and urine using the Water Recovery Sytem.

We’ll use aquaponics to grow plants and we’ll have fish farms to access proteins. The fish will be transported to the Moon as eggs.

At first solar energy will be used to procure enrgy then we’ll use helium 3 that exists in large quantities under the Moon surface crust.

We’ll use water electrolysis. It consists in separating the oxygen molecule from the hydrogen molecules.
We’ll use recycled perspiration and urine as the base for our water electrolysis. The oxygen we’ll get will allow us to breathe. The hydrogen will be stored to provide fuel for rovers that we’ll use to go places.
The stored hydrogen will be in its liquid form thanks to a hydrogen liquefactor.
We’ll also use photosynthesis. A greenhouse will transform carbon dioxide into oxygen.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

One morning, upon waking up, a very ambitious young boy wanted to go to the moon. He didn’t have any close family so he thought he wouldn’t miss what he didn’t have. Before making the final decision, he tried to get as much information as possible and tried to learn everything he would need to live on the Moon. He has this dream and other dreams that are only normal for someone his age. At 18, he was sure what he wanted to become. It would be an astronaut. April 21, 2021 is a day you are unlikely to forget. He was ready to go. The big day is finally here. He is ready to spend five days aboard a rocket that will take him to the moon. Of course, he’s prepared for Moon Camp and knows what to do to survive in this harsh environment. 3,2,1 ignition! There are 3 people on board. Once on the Moon, our 3 adventurers looked around to see where they could build and opted for Clavius Crater as the days are longer than the nights there. They decided that their camp would be like a dome because it is the shape that offers the most resistance. For food, they use aquaponics and have an insect farm. For energy, they have a solar farm that works during the day and another that works at night. And he decides to grow plants that would release oxygen using the CO2 exhaled by the astronauts. He also chooses to use the electrolysis of water which would produce dioxygen and hydrogen.
