Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The name of our lunar camp is Alveare which means hive in latin. We chose this name because it is a safe small living space like a hive. Based on the name, we used a yellow theme. We used solar panels to provide the energy and we have a satellite to communicate with the earth. We also have a space for exercise, a greenhouse and a laboratory. There are four hygiene capsules at the entrance of the base.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The moon dust we use for walls can stop meteorites and attenuated radiation. Tempered glasses are resistant to high temperature and breakage. As the base is close to the Moon poles, its temperature stabilizes. There is an area at our base for regular weekly health checks. Thus, regular health checks of our astronauts will be made.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

There are tons of ice at the lunar poles. It helps us meet our water needs. It also prevents high temperatures. It ensures that the temperature is in balance.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We plan to use robots instead of astronauts to build the base. We will use moonshine powder and tempered glass. The robots will collect the moon dust and be melted down with the help of a concave mirror. We will build the base with melting moon dust, it will harden when the moon dust dries. We will use the cured moon powder while making the exterior of our base.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water will be extracted from the water ice on the lunar surface. That’s why we’re going to land on the surface of the moon.As for the water, thanks to the spacecraft we built,we will go to where it is located,by removing the water ice.We will have obtained the water by passing it through certain stages. We will collect these waters in water tanks in our camp.We will also benefit from urine[we will recycle]We will collect the urine in one place and then we will separate the water in the urine. As we do this,we will condense the water so that the water is cleaned

We will produce our food from the greenhouse and use the foods we supply from the world. We will produce algae, pumpkin, legumes and potatoes in our greenhouse [if a problem arises, our astronauts will be able to play with the structures of the plants in the laboratory in our lunar camp]. The food we supply from the world will be preserved in vacuum. In addition, food will be tried to be produced in the lunar environment. In case of success, the amount of weight from Earth will be reduced.

Most of our permanent electricity will be generated in solar panels. Solar panels will be enough to power our lunar camp. We will ensure that our solar panels always face sunlight. In addition, we will distribute the power we produce to our moon camp and save at the same time by making savings.

Using the plants we grow in our greenhouse, we produce air and provide its transformation. We also produce air from the water we have. First, we will use the plants to absorb carbon dioxide and convert it. Second, we will distribute the fresh air to our moon camp. In addition, we added a water pool to the recreation area in our lunar camp, so that water vapor will mix into the air, which will reduce the humidity in the environment and allow our astronauts to breathe more comfortably.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

A normal day for our 4 astronauts, we get up early in the morning, have breakfast, take care of themselves, do the necessary exercises. It communicates with the world. The task is decided. Lands on the lunar surface and controls the outer part of the base. He checks the lunar vehicle and then goes exploring. Takes pieces on the lunar surface. He makes a comeback to the base. After going through certain hygiene stages, he takes the parts taken from the surface of the moon to the laboratory and starts to examine them. He informs the pieces he examines by communicating with the world. Then the meal time comes and the food is eaten in a way. Repeats the physically necessary exercises after the meal. He turns on his computer and keeps a diary of the month. Makes weekly health checks. At the end of the evening, he takes time for himself [listens to music, reads a book, etc.].
