Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our moon camp design supports 7 astronauts and we’ll provide water by packing about 530 gallons of water in reserve. The astronauts have safety equipment packed to protect them from radiation/meteors.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

We will build our moon camp near the South Pole because the climate is milder, there is ice water nearby, and interesting science locations to explore.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We will use inflatable structures made to resist meteorites and radiaton.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We will produce water by melting ice located in craters of the south pole. Rovers will extract the ice water, melt it and transport it to a processing station where it will be filtered and processed to use for drinking, air and energy.

There is plenty of sun on the moon so we can grow food. We will grow food in a greenhouse. Dehydrated foods will also be brought from Earth.

We will use the solar energy from the sun and convert it into electricity using solar cells. If anything ever went wrong we will have nuclear power as a backup option which can make electricity to power everything.

Air will be extracted from electrolyzing water.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

When I wake up the first thing I do is go to a room that has our food to eat food. After I’m done I use the bathroom. I check on an active rover that is exploring. I look at the video from the rover camera. After gathering rover data I check that our equipment and systems are working. I check for any damage.  I try to improve what we’re doing. I eat one more time, wash my hands, use the bathroom, exercise for a 2 hours,  put my clothes in a  ziplock bag, change clothes and then go to sleep.
