Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We have made a moon camp in which at least two people can live. A double layered dome is filled with ozone within its layers to protect from radiation. The building on the extreme left is divided into two parts, one of them is a small part where the escape pod is kept and the other is the living quarter which has 2 floors, on each floor there are two sleeping pods, right beside the stairs on the left there is a restroom. The building on the right side of the living quarters is the building where the stock is kept, to store resources form the earth and resources that need to be transported to earth. In middle contains a rocket like structure is a hyper velocity asteroid intercept vehicle that contains a thermo-nuclear device that could be used to smash continent-killer asteroids while the dome will be strong enough to protect rom the debris. Then there is the research laboratory which has two floors on the lower floor there are two tables and two chairs, and on the upper floor there is restroom on the left, a 3-D printer on the back side and some more shelves to store Nano-tech and the shelf beside it  has some basic first aid products. On the extreme right, the last building is used to grow plants. In front of these a communication tower and solar-bots stand.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Near Clavius crater

Why did you choose this location?

The clavius crater is present on the sunlit side of the moon, on the southern highlands. NASA found water in this crater using it’s stratospheric observatory for infrared astronomy . We choose this location because it has a relatively controlled climate. It could also be a possible source of water if this molecular water level is not only restricted to this crater. It is not as ancient as other craters therefore it can also be a source of interesting research. The solar wind implants hydroxyl in this area. In the action of decomposition processes that lead to successful penetration of various structures they ensure the complete sanitization of any contaminated material and removal of any harmful bacterial activity.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We plan on utilizing the moon regolith. A special 3D printer that will use the dust that is already on the moon, which would build completely automatically using the sunlight to build the base, part after part.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

The remnants of water bearing comets that have formerly collided with the moon that leave behind ice deposits could be filtered and used in our moon camp for drinking and other purposes.

We grow our own plants that are created using genetic modifications to create a chimera. Jill Farrant’s ideology to use the drought-resistant promoter part, anti oxidant part of the gene coding region and the terminator part of the gene from resurrection plants and put them into regular plants we speculate that we will end up with a plant species that can survive for longer periods of time without water ,even be revived if they reach a flaccid state and have immunity to reactions with oxygen.

We have solar robots that can move about and efficiently convert the solar energy to electrical energy for the camp to use that can gather enough energy to power our camp. The panels will be able to gather a lot of sun light. They will have crystal installed in them, very few, but enough to direct the light to exactly where we want it to in the solar cells.

We have a large container that makes its own oxygen and nitrogen and then pumps it out into the moon camp.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

The day starts off with the astronauts waking up and carrying out the usual morning grooming. They go on to the research facility to analyze and experiment yesterdays gathered samples. The astronauts alternate chores, one day either of them gathers the crop while the other manages the communication tower. They then sit down for a meal right in their office.  They bring in the morning samples to the stock pile for a more detailed analysis when the next product ship needs to be sent to earth.  After this they scan some signal picked up by the radar about 1500m away. When they are done they stretch their limbs a little, stiff from the day’s work. Then they sit back and eat dinner while they stare in wonder at their view of the galaxy from the moon, the asteroid intercept vehicle and the beauty  of space. They wait as their time to go to sleep approaches.
