Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

My moon base is called BakonMedia. It can house 25 people at once and has a lot of areas. It has some dormitories, a storage and fuel room, an indoor tree room, a kitchen for some reason, farm animals so we don’t need frequent deliveries and an office room where our employees can prepare for the next delivery. We also have our lunar rovers, some solar panels, small bases in the craters and some satellites.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

We chose to build the base here as there is cold traps where there is the possibility of recovering water from the moon surface. There is also lots of metal and other resources in this area.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

The main structure of the moon base will be made of sturdy steel and glass. The rest of the less important stuff should be pretty assumable. We also plan to build and assemble some components using 3D printing and making on site on the moon. Lots of plastic will be used that will be built and assembled in place.

I was thinking of sending monthly delivery ships from Earth to the base and back, it will be slightly expensive but we’ll deal with it

Protection

We will attempt to recover water from areas of the cold traps as well as burn hydrogen as they do in The Martian.

We will grow plants such as potatoes, bananas in our forest pod

Cows will be shipped to the farming pod for dairy and meat production

The Arizona system works by feeding carbon dioxide into the greenhouse through pressurized tanks. At a lunar base astronauts would provide carbon dioxide by breathing, and water for the plants could be extracted from their urine. Sunlight could be channeled to the underground plants through fiber optic cables

solar and wind power

Using Electrolysis to extract oxygen from minerals

We will maintain strict airlocks between sections and a central computer will manage all security to protect the compound from the atmosphere.
High strength polycarbonate tubes and pods. Sealable passageways and inconnecting pod tubes that double as space lifeboats

New nanotech suits that protect the astronaut when outside.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Our astronauts will  start the day with exercise in the gym to maintain their fitness in the low gravity atmosphere. They will survive on a diet of packed rations and food grown and provided in the food and harvest chambers. The day will be mostly spent  conducting science experiments and research and moon exploration. Evenings will be spent on personal chores such as emailing and speaking to families.

There will be a strict maintenance schedule and also lots of safety and emergency drills. Astronauts will also have specific responsibilities to attend to in their various departments.
