Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We imagined our Moon Camp with 3 essential objectives in mind. Our first goal was to be able to facilitate astronomy. On the Moon, the night is eternal and there is no light pollution, we can observe the Universe that surrounds us at all times. In addition, we are much closer to the Universe which we were there for example on Earth. This can  help us increase our general understanding of the Universe around us. As a second goal, we wanted to have a base that would allow us to travel more easily in the solar system and therefore reach much greater distances. The lunar gravity being much weaker than that of the Earth would allow us to use much less fuel for the take-off of our rocket. This would allow us, among other things, to reach for example Jupiter (Plus one of its moons) with the same fuel that we would have used to reach Mars. Third, we hoped that this base could allow a human civilization to develop on the Moon. In the event of a huge problem on Earth, we could give humanity a second chance with this.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

We chose this place for its continuous contribution of light. This will allow us to power our base with exclusively solar panels. Also, the ice will provide us with running water.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

Most of the habitation is in a crater. But some of it is also outside. This was chosen to protect us in part from asteroids. The materials used are  structures printed  with our 3D printer that uses moon rock and terrestrial materials such as  glass  or titanium oxide. This offers great resistance to our base.

We will use a drill that will make a hole in the ice. Next, we will place a pump that will warm and purify the ice to turn it into drinking water. A piping system will allow us to supply water to the entire base.

We have placed a greenhouse. So we will be able to grow all kinds of edible plants to give food to our base. The fertilizer will be made with the defecations of the inhabitants of the station. We will sometimes place a shelter to protect from overexposure to the sun. Also we have a swimming pool with algae in it. The algae will allow us to feed continuously because the algae can regenerate at will.

Electricity will be supplied with solar panels that are continuously powered by the sun.

The air will be entirely provided by our algae in the pool. The process of photosynthesis will provide us continuously with air and replace dirty air with air that we can breathe again.

One of the greatest dangers on the Moon is the impact of asteroids. We were remedying this problem by using a laser cannon (Heat), which will blow up all the asteroids that will have the misfortune of getting too close to us. The mental health of our astronauts is one of our priorities. Interactions are well highlighted in the station. We provided a gym and a rooftop stargazing spot so we could watch the magical spectacle that comes their way. Also, the gravity in the station is very low which allows to make all kinds of galipette to have fun. There is also a swimming pool for swimming.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Bernard Dubois gets up at 8:00 a.m. EST time. He joins  his colleagues in the dining room. Klaus Von-Steiner, who had gotten up earlier than his colleagues, was alive to finish lunch. They all discuss the tasks to be done for the day,and divide them according to their expertise. After a good lunch, Mr.Dubois  goes to the bathroom to do his hygiene. Around 8 a.m.  he then heads to the roof of the station. It is now a task to identify potential asteroids that could crash on the station. Around 10 a.m. EST time, he goes  to the gym to do his daily exercise. At 12 noon, it’s dinner time. All the astronauts head to the  dining room where  George Brown just finished dinner. Bernard has finished his daily work, so he is in free time for the rest of the day. Around  5p.m EST time, all the inhabitants of the resort return to the resort for one last time to enjoy one last good meal. Luigi Costa  has been waiting for them for a few minutes now. After this hearty meal, around 6 p.m. EST time, Bernard heads to the bathroom to wash. He has a few hours of free time left before the curfew at 9p.m.
