Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our camp was developed with all the safety standards foreseen in the ESA training, initially we will use strong, tense and compact materials such as titanium and its derivatives, this to stop micrometeorites and meteorites and that these can not the equipment, domes, structures, robots, lunar rovers and other equipment. We want to generate energy through solar panels and store it for the days that we will not have enough sun, as well as drilling for the exploration of metals and for the collection of ice to convert it into water, we will store all this water in places where we can supply water to the entire camp through internal pipelines under the lunar soil.

Why did you choose this location?

It is the best place here we have bearable temperatures for the human being, of course if we do it under the lunar surface it will be better, the idea of the group was to place under the ground where we will have temperatures from 0 to -20 degrees Celsius, but we will improve this temperature with internal piping systems controlling the temperature with the entry of water to steam, improving the conditions approximately from 15 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

We need machinery to improve the conditions of the terrain, flatten, break and that is why we develop several types of lunar rovers, to make a beautiful place, we plan to do it with the same materials of the moon, but if we will develop it under its surface.

By means of the excavations we will go down in the surface until we find ice, this will melt and will be taken to some chambers to treat the water for human consumption.

We will make many domes where we will harvest algae, fruits, vegetables, legumes and we will look at the possibility of taking some field animals to experiment if they can live in that environment.

We will need battery banks, we will store the solar energy provided by the solar panels, we will look for ways to install them in the equatorial zone and take as much energy as possible to supply and store it.

Through the oxygen production plant by gegolith, this plant is the largest that exists in our camp, the idea is through it and development by electrolysis of water generated in one of its domes and store it in the main oxygen tank, of course this also performing an air filtration to improve their conditions.

The protection of the glass is against impacts by means of specialized meshes that will help stop meteorites and micrometeorites, as well as protective layers on them to reduce 99% of solar rays and gamma rays, there are also computer systems that take through sensors all the activity of the camp.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

my day on the moon, I get out of bed at 6:00 am. 00 am, after getting up my day begins, first I do all my personal stuff (I take a bath, I brush myself, I arrange my room), after that I have breakfast, I get ready with my space suit, I go out with my suit and my space vehicle which will be destined to explore the moon and to discover new things that can help the base, also research samples to analyze and discover new things that are not on planet earth, after a long time of exploring, I will have to exercise so that my bone mass (my bones) do not weaken making me sick and when I return to earth it will be difficult for me to do things, after this exercise, I would have to make an analysis of the base including oxygen, vehicles and robots, doing a daily maintenance so that there is no error or accident on the moon base, after having done this I would have to go to see the garden to see the vegetables or fruits that have ay, when I do that I would send a message to the ESSA to send the analysis of samples or things that I have discovered, after all this I would have to take off my suit, do my personal hygiene and go to sleep.
