Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our projects is all about making moon mission sustainable and longer period of exploration, ultimately to take a big leap to another planet. We had focused on the location at which we will be having our base camp and make use of it. Also we had covered Psychology as a part of the project and few changes in meals. Psychology is very important part as it clearly defines the returns on the investments that were made of time, money and life.

We have tried to make Payload as a base camp for the astronauts. Making the pods colorful from inside with some theme will help Psychology of astronauts. Here trying hydroponics will help us to grow our own food if experiment successful. Even trying to plant fruit tree will be a part of it. Playing some mind games, like chess, puzzle, Sudoku etc.

We will use a rover to explore the shadowed craters with the help of zipliner rope, where rover once charged will enter the shadowed crater and then on 5% battery it will ask the another vehicle on the top of the crater to pull it back and this is how we can explore the shadowed craters with limited resources available. Tires and the ground clearance should be like rover will be safe even if it flips or get stuck in some area.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

Shackleton Crater, Shackleton is an impact crater that lies at the lunar south pole. The peaks along the crater’s rim are exposed to almost continual sunlight, while the interior is perpetually in shadow. The low-temperature interior of this crater functions as a cold trap that may capture and freeze volatiles shed during comet impacts on the Moon. Measurements by the Lunar Prospector spacecraft showed higher than normal amounts of hydrogen within the crater, which may indicate the presence of water ice. The crater is named after Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton.

This unique location of the crater makes it unique and beneficial for the astronauts to spend a longer time, also there may be possibility of water in the forever shadows region in the craters. This will allow us to generate power from sun and also explore for more than 14 earth days. Our main focus will be to make moon mission sustainable for astronauts by making use of material on moon’s surface.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

Moon camp will consist of payload and then slowly making more camps with moon soil and 3D printer. The base camp will always be remote control for other camps. Making more camps to make the future missions more successful for long term survival and other missions. Making underground moon camp will also help in many ways and will help for various jobs.

We will use our rocket as a base camp then on that bases we will make underground bases. We will also make underground bases with moon soil. We can use indestructible paint and make hollow body and fill with moon soil that can act as shock absorbent.
Moon camp will consist of garden, research lab, communication lab, and other all required rooms.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

Water will be carried from earth to moon, moon water can be used for other purposes also and we are not sure for the amount of water present on the moon and the form it is present (ice or in the soil).
We will be using zipliner rover to extract water ice from the craters and also explore the crater, as there is no sun light power is provided by zip line to the rover, and to bring back the rover like a zip liner container.

2 meals a day will be provided to the astronauts. Full notorious meals shall be consumed. As we know today intermediate fasting is good for good health. Food will be produced in hydroponics. Leafy vegetable and microgreens will be the main source of proteins, vitamins and minerals. Vacuumed packed space food for long term consumption; these are veg, non-veg, and dairy food. Fluid intake has to be taken care so as to keep hydrated apart from water. Few good Indian spices to keep their body warm, seeds and dry-fruits, good for munching in between meals if needed.

the unlimited source of power out there on moon is SUN. Solar power is almost free source of energy. Using new super material and thin solar panel, more efficient and will be more powerful. Even the rover will be solar powered and the

Most of the air will be taken from earth, as we explore the water source near the Shackleton crater we will have another source of air water and / or fuel.

making our base underground will be one protection from asteroid, another protection can be missile to disintegrate asteroid heading towards base. We will be using the “indestructible paint” from the outer side of the base camps.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Exercise – cardio, stretching, strength training (stretching ropes)

Branch – sprouts, microgreen , space food , meat,

Hydroponics – Nutrient, seeds and water have to be carried from earth. We will also try in the moon pot water system

Equipments check –

Rover, satellite update –

Brain storming time – games, movies, hobbies, chat, music, dance,

Checking the vital readings of the bases whenever needed

Checking the updates of the rover and the satellite

Checking for the crew and their job performance

Medical vitals check ups

Keeping a track of your health and your crew health

Experimenting with moon soil to make it stronger for building material and other uses.
