Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

For our space camp we will have robots dig underground and then we will put in a metal base in the hole that the robots dug. Next we will put everything else into the base. After that we will have the robots find ice, then put it in the water tank. Afterwards we can  get started building the green houses. Then we will have to put up the solar panels.  After that we start planting.  We will plant trees, fruits, vegetables, and other fast growing plans. Next we will connect with the European Space Agency to make sure everything is going correctly. But before we do that we will need to shoot a satellite to connect back to earth. Then we will have wifi. We will have 1 extra moon base just in case. Another detail is we will have ¨gravity¨ by using magnets on our shoes.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

I’ve heard from studies. The lunar poles have  a lot of solar power, so we could use that power to the building. Also the lunar poles have somewhat ok living conditions.  Also you have the view of the whole moon  so navigation will be so easy. Also at the lunar poles there is an abundance of ice which can be sterilized by the heaters we will bring the two problems will be fixed with one thing.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

The moon base will be made out of metal on the outside and wood on the inside we will have to use bullet proof glass for the windows and greenhouse. We will also need bricks for the base.  The plan is to bring the initial materials with us and then slowly expand the base are more supplies are brought to the moon.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

There was ice found under the moon’s surface so we could use a drill and get a chunk of ice and put it in a water tower to melt. If we needed more we could go back and mine more. Also, we can use water over and over again through a cleaning system. Some of the things that will go through the cleaning system will include sweat, spit, urine, and used water.

We will plant fruits and vegetables in our greenhouse for food. In our greenhouse we will use sanitized waste water to help the plants grow. This might sound disgusting, but instead of letting our waste just go into space, studies show that we could use it as fertilizer. We would also have to bring insects that help plants grow like bumblebees. Also we could bring livestock such as cows and chickens.

We will have solar panels and because of the solar power near the lunar poles, we will have power for the base. We will also have additional giant batteries to store the solar energy just in case.

Since our base is in space we will need a type of air lock that can keep all the air in. We will also bring at least 10 extra air tanks if something happens.

On our base there will be very strong metal supports and walls. Then for the windows and the green house there will be bullet proof glass and the base will be built on brick. It will be awesome!

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

First the astronauts will wake up at 7:30 AM.  Then we will get ready for the day doing things such as brushing our hair, brushing teeth, taking a shower, etc. Then we will have breakfast at 8:00. Then from there we will go out and water our plants. By then it will be approximately 8:10. We will exercise until 9:30, then feed the livestock, collect eggs, and get milk. Then at 9:50 we will talk to family and friends. At 10:30 we will have free time for an hour. At 11:30 we will have lunch. We will then do research until 1:00. Then we will do more exercise until 3:00. Then we will go explore the moon for three hours. By then it will be 6 so we will eat dinner. From 6:30-7:30 it will be research time. Then you will get ready for bed, maybe another shower. Then at 7:45 we can facetime friends, read or something similar. At 9:00  we can go to bed to get ready for another day.
