Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our Moon Camp is simple and it is made for 2-4 people. There is a big sleeping and working area. There is also a greenhouse that produces food and oxygen for the astronauts. A tunnel links the greenhouse and the sleeping so the astronauts will not be exposed to the extreme moon’s temperatures. There is another building with a statue inside. It may be used to extract underground water ice. We put solar cells on the top of each building to provide solar energy. We built a little moon rover that is also powered by solar energy. The moon rover is a space exploration vehicle designed to move across the surface and collect samples from the Moon.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

We chose the Shackleton crater because it lies at the lunar south pole. We would like to built out moon base at the peaks of the crater because it is almost always exposed to sunlight. It is also believed that the interior of the crater contains frozen water.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

We will build our moon base out of lunar rocks and soil using a 3D printer.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

Astronauts will use the drill to dig holes and get the frozen water.

We designed a greenhouse that produces food and oxygen.

We put solar cells on the top of each building to provide solar energy. The peaks of the crater are constantly exposed to sunlight so there won’t be any problem with getting enough of solar energy.

Oxygen will be provided by a greenhouse.

A tunnel links the greenhouse and the sleeping so the astronauts will not be exposed to the extreme moon’s temperatures.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

The astronauts will sleep in his/her sleeping area. He/she will spend most of the day inside so he/she won’t be exposed to the harsh environment. However, the astronaut will have to investigate neighbourhoods and find out what is hidden in the interior of the crater.
