Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

In our group, we found out a lot of important things / facts. We used these things to help create and design our moon camp on the moon. We decided to place our moon camp in the Lunar South Pole because the temperatures are not too cold, not too warm, and have resources. We will have a few bunkers to sleep in, a gym, green houses, and a computer room to communicate. For power, we will put solar panels all around our moon camp and inside the rovers we will build. For water we will drill the ice in the lunar south pole and boil and filter it to make fresh water. For food, we will grow fruits and vegetables in greenhouses and also bring some packaged foods also known as MRES. For air we will keep our houses airtight, and grow trees that produce clean air. For protection, we will build everything far apart, and some tunnels made out of lava tubes that exploded years ago. We can make the lava tubes wider to make garages underground that have rovers in them. We will also have a 3D printer on board to fix something if it breaks. The 3D printer needs plastic so we will bring plastic on board. In conclusion, this is what we will need or make in the moon camp.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar south pole

Why did you choose this location?

Lunar South Pole because it has great temperatures,(-58 to 32) and the sunlight is constant. Also because the lunar base is powered by solar energy and it has access to ice and other mineral resources. Years ago, lava spurted out of the ground leaving deep tubes behind.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

On the spaceship there will be a 3D printer that can fix something if it breaks. In conclusion, for the 3D printer you also need plastic string to help with creating 3D things. The robot 3D printer buries the moon sand onto the dome and it takes 3 earth months. The dome is so strong that it is protected by the materials. Their skylights bring light into the work space. There is a habination capsule and autonomous robots unloaded.

We will get ice by and boil it into water. We will get the ice from the Lunar south pole because it has access to ice and other minerals.

Grow vegetables, and fruit in greenhouses we will build and bring packaged food. (MRES)

We will put solar panels all around our area and domes/houses. We will also have rovers that will have satellites built into them.

When we build our houses/ domes we will keep them air tight. We will also build green houses that will grow trees. The trees will produce clean air when they grow.

We will build domes and green houses far apart. Lava spurted out of the ground many years ago so deep lava tubes are left. We can make them wider and deeper to travel, live, and make garages for rovers and other stuff.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

A day on the moon for astronauts is big. First, they wake up, go to the bathroom and use filtered water to brush their teeth, do their hair, wash their face with wash cloths, and spray dry shampoo in a bottle on them. For breakfast they will eat MRES (Packaged foods) and once they’re done, they will get their space suit on to travel to the greenhouse to water the plants. After they water the plants with the filtered water, they will travel to the gym to get stronger and to get in shape. They will do this till it’s time for lunch. They will have a MRE. After they eat lunch, they will look and travel around the moon to look and study more. Then, they will go back inside the house/dome, and call family members, or friends using satellites and solar panels. They will now eat dinner, and they will have another different MRE and maybe some vegetables or fruits from the greenhouses. Last, they will sit in bed, maybe watch tv or read a book and then fall asleep.
