Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Team: Inspire-yourself.

Project description

Our Mooncamp has:

  • Solar panels that supply energy.
  • Vehicles to explore and be able to live within 2 days minimum.
  • Two greenhouses from which we get food and oxygen. The roof of the greenhouse has some solar panels that go only for light and the irrigation system.
  • The drums that are distributed in pallets, is the water that is stored, and was brought from Earth.
  • The two housing compartments are furnished with their shelves, bed, place to relieve themselves, which are placed in anti-odour capsules. They have the necessary capacity to spend 3 months on the lunar base. And it also has laptops for communication with the central. Inside the compartments, there’s a device that simulates Earth’s gravity, so things aren’t floating. Inside there is also a fridge with food to survive.
  • The recycling plant puts all the garbage through one end of the tube and all the compact garbage comes out the other.
  • The parabolic antennas are to communicate with the central Esero.
  • The emergency rocket is positioned to leave quickly.
  • What is in the center of the base is an anti-meteorite mechanism.
  • The satellite that is located above the base, sends signals if any asteroid or moon rock approaches. The same also makes an anti-radiation layer.
Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

Because it seems to us a very interesting thing since in that place an asteroid collided with the Moon and there may be remains of the asteroid and more.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

I plan to build it by taking all the materials in the rocket and start assembling everything.

I would make everything out of sheet metal, which is strong and durable, and the compartments in the rooms would have a canvas over them that would keep the capsule at an ideal temperature. Two layers of sheet metal would be placed on top of the canvas.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

The water come from The Earth. The water is stored in the drums because if it were left in the open air it would evaporate due to the high temperatures and we would lose all the water.
When it is necessary to remove the water, the drum is placed in a compartment in the rooms (since it has an ideal temperature) and it is removed in mini bags of edible plastic.
When the astronaut needs to drink, he just has to put the mini bag in his mouth and by popping it with his teeth he could drink.

The food would be stored in the rooms, in some capsules prepared for it.
When the astronauts need to eat, they go into the room and they could eat without problems since there is a machine that puts gravity inside like that of the earth (9.8m/s²)

Electricity is provided by solar panels. They are all connected to each other and go to the rooms to be able to maintain the gravity machine, the laptops, etc. and for other things like the rocket launcher, the anti meteorite capsule, etc. The light that the greenhouses have is provided by the curved plates that have the corridors that connect the greenhouses. These plates are only and only connected to the light and the irrigation system of the greenhouses.

The air is obtained from the greenhouse. The plants provides food and oxygen. The air is given to the astronauts while they are outside the rooms using some cylinders that they carry on their backs.

There are two protections, the anti-meteorite protection and the anti-radiation protection. Meteorite protection is given by the machine in the center of the base. If any flying object approaches, the satellite sends a signal, that activates and covers the entire base. And the anti-radiation protection is given by the satellite itself.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

The astronaut gets up, has breakfast with his partner and goes outside with all the equipment. The first thing that is done is to review the electrical system, the rocket, etc.

Then they go into the greenhouses, each astronaut in each greenhouse. They do their maintenance to the vegetables and put the irrigation on it. After this they also eat together and after eating they rest each one in his room.

When they wake up, they do things on the computers and then they go out and drive around in the cars looking for anything. When they arrive at the base, they have dinner and until the next day.
