Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our lunar base can accomodate several astronauts for a substantial period of time. It is composed of several modules connected to each other to avoid gas and water losses. Areas are well separated yet astronauts have everything they need : life space, laboratary to conduct experiments, gym, greenhouses, composting and recycling area, parking, electricity and water production area. All centralized and easily accessible.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

We chose the lunar pole since it is the only place where the sun is almost always there. Thus we will be able to produce electricity easily thanks to solar panel and temperatures will be more pleasant. We will also be able to use the ice available at the pole to extract water.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

3D printing and materials coming mainly from the lunar soil will be used in the construction of our base. Buildings will be equipped with polyethylene shields to be protected from solar radiation.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

wastewater will be recycled and heated drills will be used to extract water from the lunar soil

we will use dehydrated food and eat the plants produced in our greenhouse

solar panels will be used

we will use pressurised airlocks to save water as much as possible. Oxygen will be produced thanks to the algae and plants of our greenhouse. Water electrolysis will also be used

we will use a polyethylene shield

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Our astronaut’s day will begin by a group breakfast. Then they shall have a gym time and go on an expedition with one of our rovers to better explore the moon. After that, they will return to the base and have lunch. The beginning of the base will be dedicated to the maintenance of the base, the greenhouse and scientific experiments, following with an other gym time. Right before dinner, they will communicate with the Earth to give news. Spare time will be after dinner and they will be able to devote this time to their leisure activities before they go to sleep
