Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our Mooncamp is built completely ontop of the lunar surface. It is made of tubing that is brought from Earth and then expands on the moon to the correct size. Windows have been reinforced by Sapphire as it is a very strong material. This base is for short stays only but has a range of rooms to meet the astronauts needs such as entertainment, research, storage, work area and a sleep area. This camp would be used for short term research or as a base to move onto big expiditions into space.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

This is so there is a constant state of energy coming in through solar panels. The camp would need to adapt to this and be able to black out the sun when needed. It would also have automatic cooling inside to ensure the temperature was at a good level.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

It is made of tubing that is brought from Earth and then expands on the moon to the correct size. Windows have been reinforced by Sapphire as it is a very strong material. They would use steel, concrete and rock that is found on the moon. Concrete would need to be created from a mixture when on the moon.

Most of the construction would be done by robots and then would be checked by astronauts as they cannot have much exposure to the radiation on the moon.

They will have a water recycle station that is able to purify and recycle water that is used and brought up to the moon. Part of the research would be to look for any water sources on or in the moon. Stores of water would be increased as expiditions go to the camp/.

The astronauts would grow their own food on the moon but would also have stores of space food that they can use if needed. They would get their protein from things like beans and legumes and could grow/make their own wheat and bread on the moon.

They would harness energy from the sun using solar panels.

They would recycle the air using filtrations systems. They would also have plants that help break down the carbon dioxide.

They would have an alert system that allows them when danger is coming, The camp materials would be able to withstand some damage but would give them time to evacuate if needed.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

A day for an astronaut in our camp would not vary too much day to day and would depend on why they were there. Generally, they would wake up and have a healthy breakfast followed by excercise to make sure they were keeping healthy. They would then check if there was any communication from earth and make sure everything was working well. One of the astronauts would walk around the base and see if everything was ok and not broken. They would then do some research in the research lab and then they might relax and watch tv or play some games. At the end of the day they would check the power stores before going to sleep.
