Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

As a team, we decided to build our moon camp on the Lunar South Pole because it is the only location on the moon with ice shards that can be melted into water suitable for drinking and cooking in our main area.

The materials chosen by us to build our moon camp are Basalt and Metallic Glass. The reason for choosing Basalt came from NASA’s research stating that Basalt is the best material to build a moon camp as it could survive around 2-3 meteor showers.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar South Pole

Why did you choose this location?

The location is best for generating solar power and has water which stashed in ice

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

The materials we will use is basalt which is very strong and metallic glass which is also very strong

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

To get water we will melt ice caps near the camp

To get food we will grow crops in a green house near the camp

To get power we will use solar power by using solar panels

To get air we will use plants because they give out oxygen and lunar regolith

To have protection we will put 3 turrets which will shoot the meteors and if the meteors survive and it will hit out base basalt and metallic glass will survive the hit

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

An ideal day for an astronaut from our Moon Camp would be rather challenging. Yet, our Moon Camp includes innovative facilities to make their experience on the moon easier. Our Moon Camp includes a Main Hall/Central Area that is further connected to a Food Storage area and a Greenhouse. The Greenhouse consists of several trees giving out an essential breathing gas – Oxygen. We have a food storage which has a lot of canned food, and we even can get a bit fruits from the plants in our green house
