Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our lunar camp was established to ensure a long-term human presence on the Moon and to aid in universe exploration. We put a watchtower because we put it in order to notify everyone in charge of where the plants grow and if there is a danger.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

We want to build near the lunar poles. Because we think the best site location should take into account 4 main aspects: – the amount of energy and how it is distributed over time; -Visibility with the Earth for radio communication; – surface temperature changes; -natural resources for human survival. In terms of energy, polar places like the south pole or the north pole will have Sunlight for about 80% of the time. Both of these two poles have 100% visibility, so Earth can be contacted 100% of the time. One of the purposes of setting up a Moon camp is to observe the universe . These observatories will be located on the far side of the Moon, but communication from the base camp to Earth will be established.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

The first works will be done by unmanned robots. They will prepare terrain for buildings. First modules will be build using construction elements delivered from Earth. In order to minimize weight of transported materials, we propose to make walls filled inside with regolith.

In next step, parts of constructions will be made with matter obtained from regolith. It is rich in chemical elements such as oxygen, silicon, iron, calcium, aluminum, magnesium and titanium. It will be possible to produce components for camp development. For this, all feasible methods will be used (chemical and thermal processing, 3D printing, CNC machines).

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

One of the reasons why the lunar poles are chosen is the solid water, ice. We aim to use moon water as little as possible. We cannot remove water regularly without affecting the balance of the moon. As a result, primarily a water recycling system and an alternative water supply are essential.

We will transport the dried food to the space station by carrier rocket. We will also plant hydroponic vegetables on the bottom to provide fresh vegetables for the astronauts.

The largest source of electricity will be solar panels. In order to eliminate the risk of failure of a few of the solar panels, we will store the electricity in high-capacity batteries, which we will use as a backup energy source.

We will heat the lunar soil to produce oxygen, and the carbon dioxide produced can also be supplied to hydroponic vegetables.

We built our chambers on the lunar surface because we surrounded our chambers with protective circles. Space for astronauts We designed a game room and video room for astronauts to take care of themselves.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

When they wake up in the morning, they will exercise first to ensure adequate physical fitness. – Start work after breakfast, first check if the automatic oxygen plant and solar power plant work normally. – In the afternoon, take care of hydroponic vegetables, go outside. collect samples for exploration and return to the lab for research and transmit data to the world. -Take care of yourself in the evening, talk to your family and go to bed.
