Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our goal in moon camp is to create a sustainable human habitat on the moon. We started with3 members, but one member unfortunately quit. We tried to make the best base we could with the time and resources we had.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Equator

Why did you choose this location?

We built our camp in a crater in the equator. It provides shelter from radiation and the days last 6 months, enough to charge up our solar panels and prepare for the night. Craters are also usually warmer than the moon’s surface.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We will get water from an atmospheric water generator (AWG) is a device that extracts water from humid ambient air.

Our food will mainly come from the large amounts of vegetables we will plant inside the glass dome.

Solar Panels will provide most of our power, we will store the power inside the batteries.

The air will come from the plants, which will get rid of Co2 as well.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

First, We will dig underground for our laboratory and bedrooms. This will be done by machines. After that, a dome and the airlock will be inserted on top. These will be made of durable glass. After that, Humans will move in and plant the vegetables.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

Our moon camp can protect the astronauts by shielding them from the cold and radiation. The crater will minimize the amount of radiation the base receives and the temperature won’t be a problem because the astronauts can live underground.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Morning – astronaut gets out of bed. They get a veggie burger from the restaurant. They go upstairs to water the plants. After that, they observe the data recorded by the rover.
Noon – Lunch is served. Astronaut goes to the top floor to relax and play arcade games. Afternoon – They go out to fix the solar panels and collect the electricity from the batteries.
