Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The Five Elements Moon Camp is roughly divided into three parts, the living area, the working area and the defensive tower. The building pays attention to the balance of the five elements, and each area is evenly distributed. The living area includes accommodation, entertainment, restaurants, observatory, and buildings powered by solar energy. The working area is equipped with a conference hall and various equipment rooms. The defensive tower has a radiation tower and a laser tower to protect the safety of the entire camp.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

According to NASA’s investigation, we can build the base in the polar regions of the moon. Since the two poles of the moon are irradiated by the sun relatively constantly, we can use solar energy to generate electricity. At the same time, the polar regions are near permanent dark areas, with potential Volatiles for us to extract and use, such as water and ice. In addition, the temperature in the polar regions is relatively mild, while the temperature in other regions fluctuates. In summary, we are building summer camps on the north or south pole of the moon.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

You can choose to take the material locally on the moon. The moon is suitable for building single-story buildings and rock bodies. Its main building material is huge rock, and it is very convenient to mine stone on it. Building a house and digging holes on the moon, the natural rock and soil layers of the moon can protect against cosmic radiation and small meteorites. At the same time, ceramic materials sintered directly from the lunar soil can be used as a supporting structure to directly heat the lunar soil to a molten state. seal. Except for some small parts, other building materials do not need to be brought into the moon.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The lunar camp adopts a sealing method, and the danger is mostly outside. Build defensive towers outside and install “electronic eyes” to catch attacking meteorites and other things. The camp creates a living environment similar to the earth. Leave an escape capsule to protect the final safety of the astronauts.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Use the machines of the Moon Camp to collect the ice cubes from the two poles, store them and recycle them.

Because space food has higher biological activity and calories, and the space station has limited space for holding waste, we use special containers or polymer packaging, and use spoons or forks to eat. These foods are of high quality, guaranteed, absolutely non-toxic, and the content of microorganisms is strictly controlled.

Use solar energy to obtain power, and then use weathered layer bricks to store solar energy obtained during the day, thereby generating electricity at night. The stored heat can also be directly released, allowing various devices to maintain sufficient temperature and power to work in the dark for a long time.

Obtained from the lunar soil, which is the weathered layer of the moon. At this time, the machines in our lunar camp are needed to transform them.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

It is mainly used for scientific research. First of all, we consider the issue of immigration. The construction of the lunar camp is to better consider this matter. The second is to study whether it can be used to launch space exploration ships, and to do some physical chemistry and life science experiments. The last is the exploration of lunar resources.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

The astronauts’ day starts from getting up in the dormitory to wash, and before having a meal, they go to the gym to exercise. Wait until breakfast is out, and go to the restaurant to eat together.

There are three buildings on the second floor of the living area. In leisure time, astronauts can go to the observatory to observe the universe. The solar panels also need to be adjusted by the astronauts to find the most suitable angle to collect light energy and distribute electricity. There is also the debugging of the signal tower to maintain a good communication signal with the earth. If there is a large conference, the astronauts need to go to a special conference hall to discuss, and there are all kinds of exquisite equipment, and biochemical experiments must go to the work area to complete. It is even more indispensable for the defense tower to be on duty. Special personnel are arranged to stand guard and take turns on duty. In the lunar camp, day and night, every astronaut is arranged at a specific time, and everything is in order.
