Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The purpose of this project is to build a scientific research base for human exploration of the moon detection, space observation and other activities. To meet the needs of human life, lunar exploration and related scientific research activities by providing basic living facilities and scientific research equipments.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We will establish the lunar base in places where there’s long-term direct sunlight, solid ice and lava pipes nearby. Sunlight supplies energy for the lunar base, solid ice provides water, and some parts of the base are built in lava tubes, which can effectively reduce the possibility of radiation.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

Part of the base will be built inside the lava tubes to prevent radiation, while the rest will be made of materials with low density, high strength, low weight, high temperature resistance and good radiation resistance.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

In order to reduce the impact of meteorite and radiation interference, the center structure camp is constructed with radiation-proof and high-strength materials. The middle part is connected with airlock channel to prevent gas loss and diffusion of polluted gas. At the same time, the pressure difference is controlled to ensure safety.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water :(carried from Earth in the early stage) ice collected by the rover in the later stage, which is melted by the reflection of sunlight in the mirror.

Food: Carry from Earth in the early stage, through the soilless cultivation of radiation or mutation qualified plant seeds.

Power: It is mainly provided by solar panels absorbing sunlight. Part of that energy comes from nuclear fusion of helium in the lunar soil which collected by rover. The product of the biogas digester and hydrogen generated by hydroelectric solution.

Air:Through the collection of green plant photosynthesis products. And part of the oxygen came from the electrolysis of water.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The main purpose of this lunar camp is scientific research, with complete scientific research equipment and a wealth of relevant information. For the future human exploration of the unknown space, looking for other habitable planets in the universe to prepare.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

After getting up, the astronauts exercise in the gym, and then check whether the energy converter and other devices work normally and the growth of plants in the breeding room. After having breakfast in the restaurant and having a rest, they start a day’s scientific research activities. The astronauts can study the samples collected by the lunar rover in the research room, or wear space suits to collect soil, rock and other samples outside the base for further research Scientific research. At dusk, make relevant records of today’s work achievements and itinerary, and then have dinner. After dinner, the astronauts can have leisure and entertainment in the bedroom.
