Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

In the face of increasing global pollution in recent years, we are in line with the concept of green, environmental protection, energy saving and high efficiency to simulate whether human beings can live on the moon for a long time, as well as carry out some scientific research and exploration.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

It was formed near the moon’s south pole near the Aitken basin. Because we can get sunshine for a long time near Antarctica, we can use solar energy to convert it into sufficient electric energy, so the temperature is more suitable and stable; there is a large amount of ice in the basin, which can get water, and can be converted into oxygen and fuel.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

The material and 3D printer are transported to the moon and printed automatically according to drawing 30

Materials: light, portable and high-strength anti-corruption materials should be selected as far as possible. The temperature difference between day and night on the moon is large, so the harm caused by expansion and contraction should be considered when designing. Because there is no atmosphere on the moon, it is necessary to select high-strength materials with radiation to prevent harm to human body. There are often storms on the moon, and the strength of the base material must be high to resist storms and foreign meteorites.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The first work was done by the robot. It took some time to explore the geology. The 3D printing robot used the metal elements in the moon to print the solid outer wall, which could block the impact of small meteorites. The surface of the outer wall was coated with metal coating to reflect the radiation, and the outermost layer was paved with clay to weaken the radiation.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water * we use a combination of various methods. First, we convert the ice into usable water. Second, we use NASA’s prospect instrument to extract water. Finally, we recycle sewage and urine for processing to extract clean water.

Food * carries Aerospace food in the early stage, establishes plant culture room in the later stage, cultivates various plants through culture medium, and prints meat through 3D printer.

Power * first, solar receiving panels and storage cells are installed to convert solar energy into electric energy for the operation of the whole base; second, hydrogen produced by electrolyzing water can be used as fuel power, and oxygen can be used as air; third, helium-3 nuclear fusion fuel stored on the surface of the moon can be fully utilized.

Air * was originally introduced from the earth, and some of it was obtained from electrolytic water; some of it was produced by photosynthesis of plants, absorbing carbon dioxide produced by human beings to produce oxygen; some of the moon ore oxides were extracted at high temperature (such as a large amount of iron and aluminum oxides);

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The main purpose of our lunar camp is to simulate whether human beings can live for a long time, and to carry out related scientific research.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

The moon camp astronauts work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. They live in the red base of the living area. Living in the environment of severe weightlessness, the physical fitness of astronauts will continue to decline. Therefore, 1-2 hours of morning exercise will be carried out every morning to maintain their physique to meet the needs of work. At 10 o’clock in the day, we will listen to the leaders’ meeting in the central control room, summarize yesterday’s exploration, harvest and research results, and display relevant data through the screen to prepare for the next step of scientific research. After the meeting, the crew will control the lunar rover to go to Aiken Basin for scientific research and exploration, data collection and resource collection. After returning to the camp, there will be relevant scientific research personnel to collect the information The data source of the whole lunar camp is used for research and processing. At noon, there will be a short break of about an hour after lunch. After that, we will continue to explore and study the moon. In the evening, after work, the crew will relax by watching movies and exercising; the astronauts will have two hours of free time every day, and the camp will automatically switch to rest mode at 10:30 p.m.
