Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The idea is to build a small moon camp, which would only be able to support 4-8 people. Our main objective is to emphasize the rapid, minimum resource construction of the most practical short term range camp under these conditions, but the camp is scalable, if necessary, the camp could be developed into a large base with sufficient resources at a later stage

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We will build our moon camp at the South Pole of the moon, such as near the ledge of Shackleton Crater’s crater rim, because it is almost constantly illuminated by sunlight, exposure to the sun accounts for about 80-90 per cent of the total lunar orbital period. This will ensure the efficiency of our solar panels, and there may be non-exposed surface ice, so that our water resources have a certain degree of security. Then there’s the relative constancy of temperature, the permanent darkness that keeps the bottom temperature of the Antarctic crater below 100K, which would also guarantee the duration of the lunar encampment

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

We’re going to use 3 D printing to build the camp out of Lunar Rock. In the control room, we focused the sun’s rays to melt the lunar regolith, creating a specific lunar structure. We are going to print out the whole model of the camp, print out some details, and then put it together by machine. After the whole model is built, we will arrange our own products and put them in our respective houses.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

We will establish on the ground a safe and reliable high-precision guidance and forecast space weather base, to ensure that the space environment does not cause too much impact to astronauts, it can ensure that manned spacecraft for real-time measurement and control, draw the actual trajectory of the spacecraft, send the precise return command, ensure the safe return of the manned spacecraft and allow the astronauts to avoid the sunspot like existence. Astronauts are also carefully selected, such as doctors with knowledge of Botany, excellent physical quality, able to adapt to various harsh conditions in space flight, and can quickly respond to the spacecraft flight may appear in a variety of failures and emergencies. More exercise facilities will be set up in the moon camp to ensure that the astronauts do not atrophy.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Take a few water tanks to the moon first, and bring water recycling equipment that is efficient and lightweight, so that the water can be used more efficiently. There are three main ways to replenish water on the moon. The first way is to use the hydrogen ions carried by the solar wind to interact with oxygen-rich minerals in the lunar soil to form water. The second method: collect the oxide on the moon, use electrolysis technology to extract hydrogen and oxygen elements, and then use chemical methods to synthesize water

We’re going to hydroponically grow things like Kale and potatoes in enclosed greenhouses that are illuminated by leds. Changes in the mineral and vitamin content of plants by regulating light. We’re going to breed TENEBRIO MOLITOR and raise it for protein.

Photovoltaic cells generate electricity, while solar panels generate heat to support technologies such as 3D printing. The laser can transfer energy from the area where the sunlight hits to the area in the shadow. SOLAR-POWERED ELECTROLYZERS can split water into oxygen and hydrogen, which can then be used to make fuel or put into fuel cells for night-time use. The excess energy will be stored in storage tubes for later use.

We intend to take it from the lunar soil and use mirrors and prisms to generate high temperatures up to around 900 ° C to release oxygen from the metal oxides. Another method is to electrolyze the powder weathered layer. Because 40 to 45 percent of the weight in the regolith is oxygen. We placed the topsoil in a mesh basket, added the electrolyte calcium chloride, heated the mixture to 950 ° C, and then applied electrolysis, moving the salt to the anode to remove the salt to extract the oxygen.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).
  1. Using the space environment to study the origin and evolution of the moon and the Earth2. Experiments and developments in genetic engineering, life support systems in closed environments, and large-scale man-made biospheres. 3. Develop and utilize lunar resources, set up lunar enterprises and develop space industry. Space Tourism and other commercial activities for people to provide a place
Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

Wake up at 06:08:00 in the morning from the Hibernation Chamber, Brush and rinse with a fingertip made of sterile gauze, and then measure your body with an inertia scale. After breakfast, you can get ready to start your day, staff can also be ready for bed the day before the shift begins. 08:00-20:00 prepare to carry out experimental work and routine maintenance, such as the growth, development and variation of animals and plants in space environment, observation and measurement of the earth. In the long working hours during the day, astronauts and the majority of white-collar workers can also work and rest time as scheduled meals, lunch break. 20:00-22:00 is the time for exercise and recreation for the astronauts. They can run on a special treadmill, which has a rubber band around their shoulders to keep their muscles from atrophiing. During free time, the astronauts can run, take photos and take pictures, listen to music on your laptop, Watch TV and email your family. 22:00-23:00 is wash time, in order to keep the astronauts from drowning risk, we usually use sponge and wash-free body wash on the body. Then you can get ready for bed and wait for another day
