Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The main purpose of our moom camp project is to build a self-recycling resort on the moon, allowing tourists to have short-term trips and sightseeing on the moon, while scientists can conduct scientific research and exploration by observing the living conditions of tourists on the moon.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

There are dark areas and bright areas on the surface of the moon, and we wanted to choose the bright areas of the moon where we could receive sunlight over a long period of time to generate solar energy for our daily electricity. The impact crater is a prominent feature of the moon surface, covering almost the whole moon surface. Therefore, we hope to build the main part of the camp in a shallow impact crater according to local conditions, and use the terrain to protect the camp.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

To set up the camp, with the 3D -printing technology subject  built five partitions, each partition internal facilities were made of small parts, components and parts using triangle structure, such as stronger, convenience of transportation, and narrow the volume by the rocket carrying the camp after assembling.During the operation period, it can be gradually improved according to the needs of tourists, and finally establish a perfect moon tourism resort.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

We intend to use radiation-proof materials as enclosures to protect astronauts and visitors from radiation damage. The location of the moon camp in a shallow crater could protect the main body of the camp. In terms of the shape design of the camp, in order to avoid a series of problems such as excessive heat dissipation caused by too many channels and entrances, we chose to separate each room directly through the wall, leaving only one main channel to connect with the outside world. The room entering the camp through the channel can wear spacesuits to better protect the astronauts. The hemispherical glass dome in the center allows visitors to enjoy the view from space in a safe environment.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Some of the water is carried by the spacecraft that carry tourists to the moon each time. The other part of the water is converted from gaseous water molecules to solid water molecules through a series of conversions, such as a converter, can turn it into liquid water that can be used by humans. In addition, the water vapor exhaled by the astronauts would be recycled as condensed water and reused for drinking and domestic use, reducing the need of water supply.

Some of the food is carried by the spacecraft that carry tourists to the moon each time, and the other is made from the fruits and vegetables that grown in the lab.Plant incubators with functions such as heat preservation and lighting are arranged in the plant incubators designed in the camp. Visitors can experience the pleasure of planting while providing fresh raw materials for the campsite.

A large number of solar panels are arranged on the top of the camp, which can generate a large amount of energy through the solar panels. At the same time, a gymnasium is set up in the camp, so that when tourists are running on the treadmill, they can creat power to provide a small amount of power for the equipment in the camp.

The basic principle of an electrolytic water oxygen plant is to split water into hydrogen and oxygen by an electrolytic decomposition method. Through this facility, oxygen can be transported by the camp ventilation system to every corner of the camp. At the same time, a large number of plants have been planted in the landscape area inside the camp, and a plant culture room has been built, so that the plants can absorb the carbon dioxide that tourists and astronauts breathe to produce oxygen, and a series of auxiliary technologies can finish the air self-circulation. The hydrogen produced by electrolysis will react with carbon dioxide exhaled by the astronauts to produce oxygen.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The main purpose is to build a moon camp for short-term tourism and sightseeing, so that people can experience the life on the moon, and help scientific researchers to explore the possibilities of human living on the moon, according to the activities of tourists on the moon to carry out science research, accumulate moon survival experience.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

In the morning, the astronauts welcome the tourists, then changed their spacesuits at the entrance, and then showed them around the inside of the moon camp. They introduced the functions and partitions of each room in the camp, such as watching movies about the moon in the viewing area. Working out at the gym; Experience the moon culture room, introduce the moon characteristic fruits and vegetables and have dinner. If the condicentions outside is fine, they will lead the tourists to explore the moon and feel the moon by themselves. After dinner, they will lead the tourists to have indoor activities , and then return to the space capsule bedroom for rest.
