Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The lunar camp can serve a variety of functions, from just a scientific outpost to a fully functional, self-sufficient working and living area with a certain number of residents. Our lunar camp will include laboratories, lounges, gyms and so on. The construction of the lunar camp will be completed by mechanical facilities. After the construction is basically complete, scientists will be able to stay on the moon for a long time to carry out some scientific experiments. As people gradually understand the moon, in the future, the moon will be possible to develop commercial, tourism.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Build lunar camps on the moon close to where the sun shines permanently or where there is ice.Because people can’t live on the moon without sunlight, fresh water and oxygen.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

Based on the natural caves of the moon, a “Kingdom under the earth” of the moon will be built. Scientists have discovered that there is a tunnel on the moon, which connects a huge underground cave that extends about 50 kilometers underground. It is very difficult to transport building materials from the earth to the moon. We can use caves to build the interior of the moon and minimize the consumables on the surface of the moon, which can reduce the cost. The temperature of underground caves is relatively stable, which can be free from meteorite attack, and is less affected by radiation.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The main damage to astronauts on the moon is space radiation. The design of “underground kingdom” can use the soil and weathered soil accumulation on the surface of the moon to help astronauts reduce radiation. The new spacesuit is equipped with a purification device. Even if the spacesuit breaks, it can purify carbon dioxide in a short time to ensure oxygen supply in an emergency. Space stretcher when astronauts encounter difficulties and can not get up, other astronauts can put the space stretcher under the body of the astronauts to facilitate mobile rescue.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Most of the water needed by astronauts is brought from the earth. Of course, the urine circulation machine is also an important part. It can filter urine and wastewater and reuse these wastewater. At the same time, oxygen and hydrogen combustion can also produce H2O.

Most astronauts’ food is carried from the earth. Microwave heaters can make astronauts eat hot food, and LED lighting technology can also make astronauts grow food in lunar camps.

Energy usually comes from solar panels. When the sun shines on the panels, the panels can provide electric energy almost instantaneously. But the night is dark and cold, so weathered layer bricks provide a way to store solar energy during the day and provide astronauts with the energy they need

Part of the oxygen in the lunar camp was brought to the base by compressed oxygen, which solved the oxygen problem in the camp. But the main source of oxygen in the camp is to electrolyze water to produce oxygen. Electrolyzing water can produce oxygen and hydrogen. The produced hydrogen can not be used for people to breathe, so it will be discharged into outer space, and the remaining oxygen can be mixed with a certain proportion of nitrogen to breathe for astronauts

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The purpose of building the lunar camp is to better carry out scientific activities such as astronomical observation, build a space power station on the moon for the use of the earth, and develop various mineral resources on the moon, providing a foothold for human beings to explore farther targets, providing construction materials and even propellants for spacecraft flying to farther planets, and providing advance stations for human beings to immigrate to the moon in the future.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

On the earth, the way people live, dress and live is very common, but on the moon, it seems to become very complicated and wonderful. In space flight, astronauts’ work and rest time is arranged in a cycle of 34 hours. Generally, they work for 8 hours, eat for 2 hours, exercise for 1.5 ~ 2.5 hours, exercise for 3.5 ~ 4.5 hours and sleep for 8 hours. In order not to let the rapid circadian rhythm interfere with sleep, sleep should wear an eye mask. In addition, astronauts need to measure their weight, blood pressure and body data every day. The astronaut’s meal is also brought from the earth, there are many kinds of canned food, before eating can also be heated, to eat a hot meal. In addition to food, clothing, shelter and transportation, astronauts’ daily work is to carry out experiments and routine maintenance, studying the growth, development and variation of animals and plants in the space environment. To observe and measure the Earth, and to wear hundreds of thousands of high-definition clothes. In weightlessness, the anti-gravity muscles in the human body will slowly atroop. To combat weightlessness, astronauts have to wear a “penguin suit” for at least eight hours. In addition, astronauts can have fun in the evening, watch TV, or talk on the phone with family.
