Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The project will build a camp on the moon that will solve the astronauts’problems of living, food, water and so on, so that they can live on the Moon for a long time. The camp consists of a central control room, bedrooms, a growing room, a laboratory, a kitchen and a storage room.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Plans to build a lunar summer camp on the Moon’s South Pole. Because the Antarctic temperature difference is small, and the sunlight is relatively sufficient, the solar energy storage can work better, provide electricity.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

First, a large lunar module will be launched from the Earth. The astronauts will live in the module first. Then the lunar rover will use 3D printing technology to cover the lunar rock outside the module. Later, astronauts will wear spacesuits to go to the moon and explore the geology along the way, soil and water are collected from the moon, mixed into the base’s structural concrete, and encamped on top of it.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The rover collects material on the moon, then 3D prints it to create a protective net around the perimeter of the home, which is then encased in materials such as moon rocks and sand to protect it from the temperature, radiation and meteorites on the moon.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

The first astronauts would use the water carried in the lunar module, then collect water ice from the Moon’s shadow to get more water, and ignite N2H4 with oxygen to get water.

First the food was carried from the earth, then vegetables were grown in hydroponic chambers, and attempts were made to grow it in lunar soil.

Solar panels convert the Sun’s energy into electricity, which is stored as a power source, and the astronauts step on electric generators to provide basic power when there is no sunlight.

It produces oxygen by electrolyzing water and mining lunar ores; it uses plant waste to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The Moon camp was built so that astronauts could survive on the Moon for a long time, and then sample the moon to better explore the moon, in preparation for building a more complete Moon base to accommodate more people.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

After breakfast in the morning, the astronauts need to check that the camp is functioning properly. The astronauts then went about their business: taking care of plants, analyzing samples, studying samples and writing reports. At night the astronauts went to the gym to complete their quota, and then time was freely allocated. The astronauts send two men out each week to collect samples and have a daily physical exam.
