Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We plan to build a lunar base in the eternal daylight zone of the Crippe Rock in Antarctica, using local material lunar concrete to build most of our buildings. It includes four major areas: living area (daily life), work area (scientific research work), production area (food source), power supply area (energy source), and radar is placed around the area (receiving earth signals and outer space signals, etc.), and lunar rovers (scientific research work, etc.)

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

The site is located in the perpetual zone of Cripp Rock at the south pole of the Moon , which is close to a small part of the perpetual zone. Here, solar light can fully guarantee electricity and plant growth almost all day; the water ice area is easy to excavate, and the shortage of water resources will no longer be worried; and the rich thorium, axis, potassium and phosphorus contained in the Klip Rock are one of the important mineral resources we develop and utilize the moon;

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

In the Polar Clipper Rock Eternal Daylight Zone, we build a European and American-style living barn and a pipe connection to the work area, the planting warehouse is located above the work barn, interconnected, which can greatly reduce the impact of the earthquake; various buildings outside the lunar concrete, the base around the full range of radar, can respond to the threat of space meteorites at any time. On the left side of the base, a large number of solar panels, fuel cells and water foil are also nearby; on the right side of the base we have built a garbage disposal device to treat garbage through 3D printing technology; the use of glass made of transparent spinel, which has the characteristics of high-hardness ceramics such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, impact resistance, etc., in addition, we build our mining tools around the periphery to ensure the progress of our scientific research work.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

In the Antarctic Cripp Rock Eternal Daylight Zone, astronauts can fully enjoy the sun bathing; the construction of a European and American-style living barn and the connection with the work area with pipes can greatly reduce the impact of the earthquake; various buildings outside the lunar concrete, the base around the full range of radar, can respond to the threat of space meteorites at any time. Glass is made of transparent spinel, which has the performance characteristics of high hardness ceramics such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, impact resistance, etc., which is very suitable for the tricky environment on the moon,The safety of our astronauts can be fully guaranteed。

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

There is a large amount of water ice in the eternal night area near the eternal day zone, and our astronauts can extract water resources through lunar rovers and Pipa tanks and obtain water resources by heating distillation;

On the lunar camp, our astronauts can eat almost the same plants as on Earth, we grow large areas of vegetables in the production area, as well as some fungal plants, their metabolites can exert hormone products to improve the resilience of plants to stress;

we built a large number of solar panels, and a photovoltaic cell to generate electricity; in addition, solar-powered electrolyzers can decompose water into oxygen and hydrogen, put into fuel cells to power the night, Let the astronauts no longer worry about the lack of energy.

The water obtained by water ice heating, our astronauts can use electrolysis devices to electrolyze it, and collect oxygen according to the principle of water electrolysis to produce oxygen and hydrogen.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

The use of scientific means to rationally build a lunar base, so that the local construction of a recyclable ecosystem, and in a certain period of time to achieve self-sufficiency, so that astronauts can live on the moon for a long time, scientific research work, laying the groundwork for future human migration to the moon.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

Considering that the base needs to be monitored 24 hours a day, astronauts should ensure different daily routines, but each person’s daily work is roughly the same. Get eight hours of normal sleep a day, which is the most appropriate time for an adult to sleep. Get up in the morning, wash up, and after breakfast, use the fitness equipment for daily exercise for two hours. This joint is critical, as the lunar environment degrades the astronauts’ bones and muscles and requires regular exercise. Then the production area takes care of the plants, collects the oxygen produced by the daily photosynthesis of the plants, and then drives the lunar rover out to collect water ice soil and scientific research samples, filling the water, fuel, and oxygen that are about to run out. After lunch, go to the work area to study the samples taken in the morning. In the evening, check whether the circuit interface in the power supply area is normal. After dinner, communicate with the Earth and report on the progress of scientific research. Finally, take a bath and go to bed.
