Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The moon camp we set up is mainly for scientific research. Firstly, we will explore superconducting materials, conduct superconducting experiments in the special environment of the moon, and measure physical properties in the superconducting environment. Secondly, helium-3, the ideal nuclear fuel for controlled nuclear fusion, is used for relevant physical experiments to realize nuclear energy and realize the daily use of new energy, and integrate nuclear energy into our lives. In addition, the exploration of the world outside the Moon and Earth is also an important subject for us, rocket launches and galaxy observations are an integral part.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

The moon camp is to be built on the moon’s South Pole, where there are various craters that can effectively avoid the macro effects of the sun, cosmic galactic radiation and some micrometeorites. On top of that, at the moon’s South Pole, ice and rock mix together on the surface of the craters. Because of the moon’s rotation axis, sunlight never reaches these shadowing areas, making them natural water fountains. Then there’s a lot of liquid hydrogen, liquid oxygen that can be used as rocket fuel when electrolyzed.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

There is also a lot of natural glass in the lunar soil, which can be processed as a high-strength material for building bases, providing a safer space; And the soil is rich in iron and nickel ore, can be used to improve the toughness and strength of building materials; The lunar soil was used as 3D printing materials to print necessary tools.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

There is also plenty of natural glass in the lunar soil. A spherical glass shield can effectively prevent silicate dust from entering the human body and make it easy to observe and clean up. There are instruments to monitor the health of astronauts. Spacecraft shielding system built by magnetoelectric away the glass cover, at the same time, in which is full of ionized gas mixture used for effective from cosmic radiation (similar to the earth’s ionosphere), when the alpha particles through this kind of ionized gas, they will lose energy (the process is similar to the earth’s ionosphere near the north and south poles of the undesirable process); Equipped with armed system, can automatically predict and lock the nearby UFO, effectively prevent the invasion of meteorites.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

There are plenty of icy water materials to be found in the shadow, providing water for the astronauts. After the completion of the base, the ice water near the shadow area can be mined, and drinking water can be obtained through melting, static precipitation, adsorption precipitation sterilization and activated carbon adsorption. At the same time, the used water is recycled through a filter, including our urine. In addition, the residue of filtered urine can be used as soil fertilizer.

In terms of food, the astronauts themselves bring some constant heat, moderate water, water can be used after the food, ionizing radiation preservation food, frozen dehydrated food, natural food, etc., can be. After that, a small plant breeding pod will be set up, and the seeds of vegetables and fruits will be planted for later food preparation.

There is no atmosphere on the moon, which can provide a lot of energy needed by solar energy and hydrogen generated by electrolysis of water as fuel. Nuclear power stations have been built to use the moon’s abundant helium-3 to provide energy for daily life and work, so as to ensure the normal operation of the lunar base.

Since nitrogen is 70 percent in the air, astronauts need to carry enough to survive. Some of the oxygen is provided by electrolysis with the ice water collected from the shaded area, and some of the oxygen is provided by the photosynthesis of the plants under cultivation.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

Scientific research, collection of some nuclear fuel, more cutting-edge energy research and invention, to contribute to the stability of the world order. More efficient astronomical observations, pre-launch rockets, studies of galaxies beyond the Earth-moon system, and the search for planets with the right conditions for human life. And some simple experiments on superconductivity to explore the physical properties of new materials.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

After getting up in the morning, you can have a cup of warm coffee first, holding a book, lying on the soft sofa, comfortable reading; Tired can carry out a sweaty fitness, in the whole body of acid cool in a simple shower, eat a meal made by the machine, after filling the stomach, sit on the maglev car, just gently on the phone a little, the car will receive destination instructions, a key delivery; Carry out bold scientific research activities full of creative ideas and rigorous research activities in the laboratory. Complete scientific research facilities will make you feel that the potential of your whole body is stimulated. In the evening, when you drag your tired body back to the base by car, you will be greeted by a quiet bedroom, a hot meal, or an attractive movie. All of these are enough to melt away your fatigue and embrace the next day with full enthusiasm.
