Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We will build a camp to meet the living needs of four astronauts, and they can carry out further scientific research on the moon and even outer space. Just like our team name spark explorers, the four astronautics will discover the moon and the dazzling sparks in space with a passion for exploration.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We will build our lunar camp at Shackleton crater. The peaks along the edge of the crater are almost always exposed to the sun, while the interior is always in shadow. The shaded areas of the polar regions contain water and ice that humans need and can also be used to make fuel. The peak along the edge of the crater is almost continuously exposed to sunlight. The low temperature at the bottom of the meteorite crater is an ideal place for infrared observation. Solar panels or power stations placed along the edge can provide nearly continuous energy to the observatory.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

Before astronauts land on the moon, there will be advance troops to conduct geological investigation and the first stage of base construction on the moon. The materials mainly come from the soil and rocks on the moon. Using protein binding and solidification lunar soil technology, the excavated soil is made into lunar soil bricks for base construction, and the excavated holes will be reinforced for base construction. After completing the construction of basic living conditions, astronauts will land to operate the robot more accurately and improve the base construction. Or 3D print out the required facilities according to the actual needs, such as tables and water purification equipment. In the second stage, astronauts will further stabilize the living environment and ensure the most basic survival problems to ensure the survival needs of astronauts.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

The fitness area of the building can ensure the physical health of astronauts, while the medical area can get good treatment when astronauts are injured. The communication room can enable astronauts to contact their relatives on earth and ensure their physical and mental health. In order to prevent osteoporosis and other diseases, we will be equipped with fitness equipment, such as treadmill. In addition, we are equipped with escape measures. In case of emergency, astronauts can even leave the moon by rocket.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

On the other hand, mining the water in the rock and soil into pure water, on the other hand. And adopt the environmental control and life insurance system to realize the recycling of materials as much as possible. Relying on the environmental control and life insurance system, the water vapor exhaled by astronauts can be collected through the condensation and drying component at the base, and then converted into drinkable reclaimed water through the purification device, such as collecting and treating urine into drinkable purified water.

In the first stage, we will eat compressed food brought from the earth to ensure daily needs. After reaching the moon, we will quickly carry out plant research and recycling of secondary waste in order to achieve self-sufficiency in resources on the moon.

In the early stage, we will make full use of hydrogen electrolyzed from water. In the later stage, we will collect and store solar energy efficiently.

In the early stage, the main way for us to obtain oxygen is the water obtained by electrolytic mining. After stabilization, we will balance our oxygen demand with the carbon dioxide demand of plants to meet the sufficient supply of oxygen. Moreover, the supply of oxygen can also come from chemical reactions. When going out to work, astronauts’ spacesuits are equipped with sodium peroxide.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

The purpose of our base is scientific research. Our primary purpose is to have a more thorough understanding of the moon, and the second is to provide rich information and experience for human migration to aliens.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

On the moon, unlike on the earth, there are days and nights on the earth, but only days on the moon. Therefore, astronauts need to have their own work and rest time and make plans close to their living conditions on the earth. Four astronauts work in shifts and two in one shift. After getting up, astronauts brush their teeth, wash their faces and eat breakfast as on the earth. However, astronauts use edible toothpaste, do not need water and do no harm to their bodies, When eating, they eat by straw. After eating, they enter the work area to study the lunar soil, surface air, and gravity. After working all morning, they go to the living area for lunch. After eating, they can rest in the lounge of the work area for a while and continue to work. After working, they check the planted food, and then have dinner. After eating, they can exercise, To maintain their physical health. After that, they can go to the communication room to talk with their families to maintain their mental health. After that, they can take a bath, wash and sleep. They can change the next batch of astronauts. After the working day, they can get together to watch movies, play games, etc. or they can read quietly alone to relax themselves and welcome the new week. One of the four astronauts must have a doctor to deal with emergencies and give first aid. Astronauts have eight hours of rest a day.
