Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our lunar Camp project is to create a 3D printed lunar camp in a natural cave at the South Pole of the moon, which will provide a comfortable and comprehensive rest environment for future interplanetary astronauts. Our lunar camp has complete infrastructure, entertainment facilities, and scientific research facilities, providing unlimited possibilities for future interstellar travel.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Our moon camp site selection in the moon’s South Pole natural cave, because after investigation found around the moon’s South Pole crater contained natural permanent ice, the ice after processing operation for our daily life and camp provide water, at the same time set the moon camp in natural cave can effectively avoid the meteorite hit around the moon, At the same time, the temperature in the cave is constant at minus 20 degrees Celsius, suitable for camp construction and daily activities.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

We will use the latest 3D printing technology to build the main frame of the moon camp directly from the natural cave, which will greatly reduce the time required to build the base.After printing the base frame, fill the base with diatom layer, which can increase the stability and insulation of the camp. Build a layer of diatom layer on the wall of the cave.The whole underground part can be wrapped up, so that astronauts can directly carry out activities underground without frequent changes of clothing. 3D printing technology will be directly used to build factories, radars and other infrastructure, saving time and effort.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

Our campsite selection in natural caves, the moon can effectively avoid the dangerous impact on the moon and extreme temperature changes and also can avoid sunlight intense ultraviolet light, at the same time, we can choose by psa and the constant temperature of diatomite as the basic building block of the moon’s camp material, also for the astronauts to provide a safe environment.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

And the way we get that water is by taking ice from the crater and putting it in a factory and processing it, filtering it and then providing it to the astronauts

We built a large vegetable base in the moon camp, using soilless culture and solar energy to grow the astronauts’ daily life needs of food, and then transported to the base for processing for the astronauts to choose.

We use solar panel to collect solar energy to provide basic energy supply for a moon base, and in the factory for the process of electrolysis of water can extract the hydrogen and oxygen can also provide energy supply for the camp, our moon camp in the use of helium 3 extractor to extract of soil on the surface of the moon, using helium – 3 using the characteristics of high efficient utilization of repetition.

After investigation, it was found that the lunar surface soil contains a large amount of oxygen element, which our lunar camp intends to extract and resynthesize. Meanwhile, in the process of water electrolysis, oxygen generation can also provide enough oxygen for the lunar camp.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

The main purpose of building this lunar camp is to provide a rest station for the astronauts in the interplanetary shuttle. Since it is a transit station, people need to be stationed all year round, so our lunar camp is very complete with basic amenities, entertainment, scientific research, medical areas are very complete.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

Astronauts wake up from the residential area in the morning and can go to the fitness area for morning exercise. After morning exercise, they go to the bathing area for a shower. After that, they go to the restaurant for breakfast.After breakfast, you can go to the research area for some scientific research tasks, work until noon to have lunch in the restaurant, at noon back to the residential area for a nap.After getting up in the afternoon, you can go to the lunar surface to observe the operation of the equipment, or drive a lunar rover to patrol the lunar surface.After dinner, you can go to the entertainment area to relax, watch movies or sing songs and play games. Finally, before going to bed, you can go to the medical area for physical examination and health care. Finally, you can return to the residential area for rest and end the day’s life.
