Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022
In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description
We will build a lunar camp for 2-3 people to live and use for scientific research. Astronauts can live in the camp for a long time, and here it can also be used as a condition due to the moon’s low gravitational force and windless conditions. It can also provide a space base for exploring space. Astronauts can explore the moon and space here, preparing and adapting for future space exploration. Our site consists of four parts: a living plantation area, a laboratory, an industrial production area, and a communication and control center. There are also lifting platforms connecting the underground and the ground, solar energy supply devices on the lunar surface, unique water collection systems, and lunar rovers to assist in exploration. |

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?
We intend to build our lunar camp near Shackleton Crater at the south pole of the moon. The amount of time exposed to sunlight here each year accounts for 80-90% of the lunar orbital period. In addition, a large amount of water ice was detected in Shackleton Crater, we can send a lunar rover to the bottom of the crater to get ice, and when the rover is unreachable or when the rover strikes for various reasons, we also set up a device that reflects sunlight to collect water directly at the bottom of the crater, which ensures our supply of water resources. 2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.
We will use 3D printing technology to build the main part of the lunar camp, and the 3D printing technology is relatively mature, and a 3D printer will be transported to the moon in batches. The material will be a new type of concrete made using lunar soil mixed with human urine, which has been shown to be highly strong enough to make building materials. 2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)
We intend to build the camp underground, which will reduce the threat posed by cosmic radiation and meteorites. We also have a monitoring and detection system to monitor the situation outside the base in real time, which greatly ensures the safety of astronauts. |

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
|
Water
|
Food
|
Power
|
Air
|
We will use two methods to obtain water resources: |
We planned to use rockets to send ground food to the moon in the early days of the lunar camp, and we built planting areas in the lunar camp to grow crops through anhydrous cultivation, and we can achieve self-sufficiency after the crops mature. Other basic household items will be transported from the ground by rocket. |
We will use two methods of power supply: |
On the basis of the supply of water resources and power resources, we use electrolyzed water to obtain oxygen, and then through the nitrogen and oxygen mixer to obtain mixed oxygen concentration of air, by-product hydrogen can also be used as fuel energy. |
2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.
Our lunar camp is mainly used for scientific research. The Moon provides an ideal environment for experimentation and research, with a series of experiments in the lab and short-term habitation explorations on the Moon.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.
The astronauts got up in the morning to go to the communication center to test whether the systems of the base were operating normally, and after breakfast, they controlled the lunar rover to collect ice at the bottom of the pit, and after obtaining the water ice, it was transported to the base, and it was treated with equipment as drinking water. Communicate with the earth through communication equipment and report on the latest situation of the base, and then physical exercise in the gym to maintain good health. After lunch at noon, you can take a proper break. In the afternoon, experimental research will be carried out in the laboratory, and after the research is completed, the vegetable planting area will be inspected to check the growth of the plants. In the evening, after dinner, appropriate recreational activities are also carried out to maintain unity within the team, followed by cleaning of the base. Before going to bed, the astronauts also talk to their families to ease homesickness. |
