Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our goal was to be the first to build a moon camp program, so we built a small, smart, mobile moon camp. The compact structure could reduce the weight of the rocket and maximize the cost of building a moon camp. The station’s remote control system can enable astronauts and ground crew.Mobile features allow our moon camp to explore the larger lunar world rather than being confined to one place, allowing people to better understand the moon. Our base is designed to house four to six astronauts, and the circular base is divided into two levels, the first level is the power area, the office area, and the equipment area.Second floor living area planting area, living area. The energy zone has facilities to produce and store water and oxygen, and the planting zone uses soilless cultivation techniques to provide food security for the base.Astronauts can monitor the conditions of the entire base from the office area and work remotely with various cars. The living area has six separate sleeping compartments, two bathrooms, dumbbells and treadmills.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We plan to build a crater at the South Pole of the moon. The location has many advantages, including long-term, continuous solar energy and relatively stable temperatures for soft rocket landings. The abundant solar energy here can provide the energy needed for the base’s pre-production, harvesting nearby lunar soil and water sediment resources. The conversion of the collected materials into water and oxygen using water ice conversion technology and lunar earth oxygen production technology is conducive to the realization of the first step of the plan and lays the foundation for the whole plan.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

As for the construction of the base, we will launch the base module in three stages, and the energy zone and planting zone will arrive first. In this stage, there will be no astronauts, and the moon satellite will be used as a relay station for remote control by the earth base personnel. The next phase, the living quarters and working areas, will arrive, and after the soil sea has reached a certain level of brightness, the astronauts will depart, and the base will be fully operational and fully self-sufficient within the planned time. The third stage is to explore outward from the base.We plan to use titanium alloy for the base and silicate fiberglass for the glass. The project will use 3D printing technology to print modules from the base, deliver them in batches and assemble them on the moon.Astronauts can participate in design steps to enhance the identity and comfort of their base. structures.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

To prevent meteorites, we plan to use special drive systems to give key parts of the base mobility. Although the moon’s surface is not flat, the moon’s gravity is only one-sixth of earth’s, which makes movement on the moon not difficult at the base.Normally, the base’s mobility function is used to explore the moon, and to move out of asteroid impact range when receiving danger messages from orbiting satellites.Titanium and silica salt glass fibers insulate the body from high radiation temperatures, and air tightness tests on the ground ensure that pressure and oxygen levels are maintained at stable values.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

We’re going to be mining water deposits in Schaechter Crater, and solar energy is going to provide plenty of energy for that. The water circulation system in the base is divided into two parts: one is used to treat the newly mined water ice, and the other is used to recycle all the used water. The waste water such as urine is recycled and reused, and the residual waste is used as plant fertilizer in the planting area. The waste will be buried in the mine hole and marked with the relevant mining status, reducing the burden on the moon and also reducing the amount of exploration needed for later projects or other countries.

In the first phase no astronauts will enter the base without food.In the second stage, the modified soil can produce some food, but it still needs to be transported from earth. The base is fully operational in accordance with ground regulations to promote the soil renovation plan and expand the scale of planting to accelerate the realization of self-sufficiency.During the transformation process, the realization date of the second step is predicted according to various data.Astronauts will eat space meals for most of their time on the moon, but astronauts can choose their favorite flavors and some trace elements will be eaten.

The moon has no atmosphere, and the sun on its surface is several times the size of the Earth’s.Solar energy can be used as the main source of energy for the base, and a specific period of time can be chosen for launching rockets so that solar panels can provide sufficient energy for the construction of the base.In the few dark hours, the energy stored in sunshine period can be supplied to the base for use, and some non-necessary facilities can be closed and put into hibernation state, so as to save the energy of the base to the maximum extent, so that the base can go through the dark period and welcome the next cycle, realize periodic development and gradually become stable.

The main mission of the base construction is to explore lunar geography and resource distribution. At present, the exploration of the moon mainly uses satellites, and the specific exploration of the lunar surface is still facing many difficulties. Our base can be mobile and explore a large part of the moon. Detailed data will allow countries or institutions to take a lead in exploring the moon, making detailed plans to regulate the exploitation of lunar resources, reducing the burden on the moon and ultimately achieving sustainable developmentstable.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

6 o ‘clock after waking up, the astronauts to do personal hygiene while listening to the base last night inspection report.Breakfast is served in the living area, and astronauts can choose their own space meals according to their own tastes.

At 7:00, I went to the working area to analyze the data of water ice mining area, lunar soil mining area and lunar satellite data, and predicted the data mining situation and space meteorite track and responded to the earth.

12:30 Lunch of the first group at.

12:30 lunch of the second group, the first group went back to analyze the data of other areas of the base, discussed relevant data with the ground staff, and decided the mining and base movement of the base tomorrow together with the ground staff.

At1:00, the second group entered the experimental area to start the base and various commercial experiments, record experimental data, observe the growth of crops in the planting area, adjust the proportion of nutrient solution, and predict the maturity date.

6:00 for dinner.

The final check of the base at 6:30:

7:00-9:00 astronauts’ personal time, can complete personal cleaning and various recreational activities.

9:00 rest.
