Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The lunar camp is scattered as a whole, with six zones, a good geographical location, excellent building materials, advanced technology, to the greatest extent to ensure the safety and operation of the base, and can continue to effectively access energy, as well as means of production, can support the normal work and daily life of astronauts. Two major technologies are mainly used in the camp, one is airbag technology, the other is bionic worm technology, air sac is mainly used for protection, and bionic worm technology is mainly through worms crawling on specific lines to achieve monitoring of biological culture. The camp is to ensure the health of our astronauts as the core element, for this reason, we set up an underground escape station, which is stocked with a large number of supplies and certain hardware equipment. Not only that, in order to shorten the time required for escape, an escape channel with a large slope will be built, and the passage will be filled with large areas and large volume air bags to ensure the safety of the whereabouts of our astronauts.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Built on the relatively flat sunny surface above the moon, because the heat capacity and thermal conductivity of the lunar surface material on the moon are low, so the temperature difference between day and night is very large, and the establishment on its sunny side can absorb more solar energy during the day to supply the energy supply of the lunar camp, and the relatively flat terrain is convenient for the establishment of other facilities and has enough building space. Built on the earth-facing side, it can easily receive wireless signals transmitted from the earth.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

It is roughly divided into three large areas, energy production and utilization area, daily life area, and work area. The temperature difference between day and night on the lunar surface is large, and the building materials are mainly heat insulation materials. For energy, the use of solar energy technology, which is now more mature, can provide most of the energy and assist the use of bioelectric power generation technology. The materials of the building are easy to repair or durable. In view of the large temperature difference between the lunar surface, the use of more efficient refrigeration equipment, the use of semiconductor technology, the use of semiconductor materials at the same time cooling and heating characteristics can be perfectly adapted to the moon day and night temperature difference situation.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

The camp has a certain degree of closure, which can save a specific amount of artificially produced oxygen, and the temperature, humidity, and proportion of gas components in the camp are controlled within the range suitable for human habitation through artificial production. The emergency shelter stores enough water and resources for staff to survive for a short period of time, and spare communications equipment is installed to prevent accidents at the lunar camp headquarters.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

There are 3 parts to obtaining water: 1. When the base is established, a large amount of water is transported outside. 2, by the scientific expedition spacecraft, during the surgical examination, obtained from the comet to supplement the consumption of various tasks. 3. At the same time, the most important part is the recycling of water, the domestic wastewater in life, the chemical wastewater generated by scientific research, etc., through the sewage treatment function, reuse.

Divided into two parts: 1, food produced by microorganisms, using the concept of fecal food, using the biomass generated by the interaction between feces and microorganisms can be indirectly eaten or directly. 2, in the plant planting room, the use of culture solution for water planting of plants, and then the planting of mature plants to process, so that it can become a food that can be eaten on the moon.

Divided into two parts: 1, laying efficient solar panels as an aid, using the strong daylight of the moon to generate electricity and obtain energy. 2, the moon has a wealth of He-3, can use the base of the modified small nuclear reactors in the base for energy supply, micro reactors are liquid metal cooling, with semiconductor temperature difference power generation (thermocouple) or thermoion system power generation.

Air is composed of artificially made nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, inert gas, etc., of which oxygen can be obtained by electrolysis of the lunar surface soil, and mineral resources are obtained, and other gases can be made by equipment when building the base. The environmental detection device in each cabin maintains the stability of the gas environment, and in case of imbalance, it is automatically adjusted according to the settings.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

The purposes of the establishment are: to use the space environment to study the origin and evolution of the moon and the earth; to conduct experiments and research and development in microbial genetic engineering, life support systems in closed environments and large-scale artificial biospheres; to develop and utilize lunar resources, to start lunar enterprises, to develop the space industry; and to provide a place for people to carry out space tourism and other commercial activities.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

7:30 – 8:30, breakfast will be eaten in the base dining area, and the base’s three meals a day are obtained from the base’s cultivation warehouse and made from compressed food brought by the earth, which allows astronauts to eat exactly the same delicious food as on earth.

9:00- 12:00 First go to the workspace to view the monitored data, control the computer to perform a series of calculations, and complete the data summary. There will be relevant responsible persons going to the resource acquisition area to detect whether the equipment is normal, and whether the environmental index of the resource storage area is up to standard with the computer. Some personnel will wear protective clothing, carry relevant equipment, collect samples on the moon and bring them back to the work area, and then conduct relevant experiments with the collected samples in the laboratory.

13:00-15:00 Lunch, lunch break.

15:00 – 17:30, astronauts will use holographic projection technology in the workspace to simulate some situations and ideas. Our astronauts will also continue their experiments in the lab.

18:00-19:00 Dinner.

19:30 – 20:00 Our astronauts will work on meetings, report and summarize the day’s work.

20:00 – 10:00 Everyone will go to the entertainment area to carry out a certain amount of sports and entertainment activities to ensure their own function. Lying down on the bed and watching a movie with a projection device, as the movie ended, I fell asleep.
