Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The main purpose of our team’s construction of this lunar camp is to build a base on the lunar surface for human exploration of outer space and the moon, and to establish a long-term base at the south pole of the moon. First we will launch a large launch vehicle into the orbit around the moon, and then launch a lunar spacecraft from the large rocket to the moon, and after the astronaut locates the position selected by the lunar table, the launch vehicle will launch to the lunar surface to build a shooting facility.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We will set up a lunar camp near the lunar crater at the south pole of the moon, and the specific coordinates will be 80° 80° west longitude. Because this area has sufficient light time and stable temperature, it can provide energy protection for astronauts.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

We will use 3D printing technology and electromagnetic heating technology to build a lunar camp, first using lunar soil materials to print construction molds, and then pouring out buildings or building materials using metals smelted from lunar rocks and lunar soils. We will use radiation-proof glass, iron, titanium alloys, rubber, steel and other materials to create radiation-proof, light-transmitting, insulated and closed base walls. We will also use low-temperature superconductivity technology and solar thermal power generation technology in combination with the energy devices built to supply energy for lunar camps.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

The walls of the lunar camp we have built are rubber-sealed, the lunar natural vacuum environment is insulated, and the entire lunar camp is equipped with a temperature regulation device, that is, the high temperature medium in the thermal power generation tower and the cooling device under the tower, so as to ensure the suitable air pressure and temperature of the astronauts’ living environment. Electromagnetic cannon devices were used to prevent meteorites from hitting lunar camps.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

Astronauts will use hydrogen to react with ilmenite collected on the moon to produce water, and use wastewater purification technology to recycle water resources.

Astronauts will use soilless cultivation techniques to cultivate crops containing high calories, such as potatoes and soybeans, in the artificial greenhouse base they have built. They will also use microbial engineering techniques to produce a variety of proteins and fungi to enrich their nutritional intake.

Astronauts will use solar thermal power generation technology, superconducting magnetic levitation technology, superconducting transmission technology and combined with flywheel energy storage technology to build an energy building, the use of energy buildings to obtain electricity generated by solar thermal power generation, and this energy building is divided into high and low level discharge intensity, power coverage of the entire base.

Astronauts will use the lunar rock and lunar soil collected on the moon to directly produce oxygen and produce a variety of metal mixtures through high-temperature electrolysis, and use the oxygen produced to mix with compressed carbon dioxide and nitrogen in proportion to produce air, carbon dioxide and nitrogen only participate in circulation and are not consumed, and then fill the air into a closed base for astronauts to breathe.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

The main purpose of our lunar camp is to explore the moon and space, and to use its human exploration of the deep space as a springboard for scientific research.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

Astronauts who have been resting for 8 consecutive hours wake up, and astronauts wake up in the washing area after waking up from the rest room of the living area, and then go to the eating area to eat and bring some convenient food to the locker room to change into work clothes. The astronauts will go to different places to carry out missions. In the living area, after breakfast, the astronauts will go to the second floor of the living area, that is, the greenhouse area to check the equipment of the greenhouse area and observe the growth status of cultivated crops and the cultivation of microorganisms. At the observatory, astronauts will check the instruments for abnormalities and look at what was detected during last night’s break, uploading important data to the supercomputer at the experimental base. In the production workshop, the astronaut will first check whether the entire production workshop is abnormal, and after checking that there is no error, the cloud will detect whether the equipment and automatic mining vehicles in the entire production workshop are abnormal, and if there is no error, the automatic production line will be started for production work. The Energy Building will then be inspected, of course, by automatic inspection. In the laboratory, astronauts will conduct scientific research experiments and research in physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, etc., and will report to the Earth. Until four hours of continuous work, the astronauts will return to the living area to eat and take a short break, which is about two and a half hours. After a break, the astronauts would shut down the production line and some other facilities and make data records, and finally the astronauts would return to the rest area for dinner and fitness or recreation according to themselves. After one day of the above work, the astronauts rested after washing up.
