Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our campament has several rooms. The first one is the entrance, where you desinfectate yourself and enter into an oxigen space. All the rooms are connected by circular corridors. With this we can access to the contine, where astronauts eat their  food and rest from their investigations. The cantine is connected to the bedrooms, where astronauts sleep. On the other side of the campament are located the laboratories, the most important rooms in the base. Here they have  all the necesary equipment for their investigations. This camp is also focus on the investigation of the behaviour of the plants in very little gravity that´s because there is a greenhouse. In the greenhouse the astronauts cultivate plants for investigation and for eating.

This is a little component with a lot of utility. It uses renewable energy source and try to recycle  all that they can.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

It is going to be ubicated in the crater Shackleton, in the South Pole. We chose this place because there we can find frozen water and it is also a good place for investigation.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

Before sending the astronauts to the moon we had sent a rocket with an enormous 3D printer and the necessary materials. This construction method is also going to be used in the colonization of Mars. Its design has the aim to protect the astronauts and to give them a comfortable space to work, investigate and rest. Its shape is made to be easily printed. The materials used are mainly resistant and insulating crystal and metal.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

As I said before it is located in a crater so they are more protected because they are surrounded by a Lunar sand wall. Also the materials chosen have the aim of protecting the astronauts from Sun radiation, rock impacts, freezing temperatures, etc.

2.4 Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water
Food
Power
Air

Water: from the frozen ice of the floor of the crater and storing some from Earth. Also trying to recycle as much water as possible.

Food: the greenhouse will provide the astronauts with food and with dehydrated food from Earth.

Power: with the solar panels.

Air: the greenhouse connects with all the camp so it will produce oxygen. Astronauts will also bring some oxygen if there is a problem.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

It has mainly a scientific purpose, because all it focuses on is the investigation on how it would be to live on the Moon for long periods of time. And also to investigate how other living thighs react to Earth conditions.

Maybe it can also have a commercial purpose, because like other actual missions, are financed by private companies (SpaceX). These private companies aim to make money so maybe they finance the project with the condition of sending tourists.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

Astronauts will wake up early in the morning, but when is the morning on the Moon? Astronauts’ time will be synchronized with one of the Earth (maybe Spain’s one). They will have breakfast  and they will talk with each other, because psychology (mental health) is very important on the Moon and socialization helps. After the breakfast they will have a meeting to plan the things they are going to do during the day. After the planning each one will start doing their tasks. Some will go outside to take samples and then investigate it in the laboratory, others will repair or improve things in the base, others will work in the greenhouse, others will prepare the food, others will investigate in the laboratory, etc. Some of these tasks will also be done after lunch. And after a fully productive day they will have dinner. After the dinner they will have leisure time to call their family on Earth to play something … Then they will go to sleep to be ready for the next day.
