Moon Rover was designed for lunar exploration and transportation of astronauts. It has two seats, with controls and monitors between the pilot and passenger. Precise sensors detect the lunar landscape and obstacles, while a navigation system guides the rover.
Visible and infrared lights illuminate the path at night and in low visibility. External cameras provide 360 degree visibility and display multiple views on an integrated monitor. The rover also carries scientific instruments to study the lunar surface, analyze soil and rock samples, and search for resources.
Safety is ensured by redundancy in critical systems, energy efficient components, and lightweight but durable materials. A high-gain antenna allows communication with Earth and other craft on the lunar surface. To traverse rough terrain, the rover has high ground clearance, large knobby tires, and advanced suspension and traction control.
A solar panel charges multiple batteries for extended range and operations during lunar day .
