Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

 

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Our moon base was originally inspired on my old moon base I had to do as an assignment in S2. We added many objects such as a rocket, a garden for nutrition, a moon rover, some mountains as decor and scenery, satellites, fuel and water pumps, and three bases for technical, research and overall habitable purposes. Our base has been optimised for max comfort and pleasure for the astronauts inhabiting our base which are discovering new research. This moon base has been thought to be optimal for food growth on a distant planet, with water pumps that extract water from the lunar soil, solar panels and telescopes. This is coupled with many types of transport such as moon rovers, a rocket ship and passageway tunnel to keep oxygen contained for mankind to breathe.

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Investigations on the moon have brought substantial benefits to people on Earth: spawning everything from hand-held computers to insulin pumps and freeze-dried food. So we should continue investing in the space research.

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

Our moon base will be on the far side of the moon and will provide the astronauts with water, from the water pumps that extract nutrients and water from the lunar soil.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

The oxygen keeping tunnel passageways and bubbles will be made from alumino-silicate glass panes and aluminium. The water pumps and satellites will be partially made by lunar concrete. Other material will be brought from Earth.

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

Our base will mostly be built from materials like titanium, aluminium, carbon nanotubes and silicon carbide for the main base and living quarters

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Food:
The astronauts will also be provided with food form the crops that are grown in our base. Since astronauts lose their sense of taste and smell in space, our crops will provide the energy needed without the astronaut always getting fed up from eating the same food.

Power:
This moon base will also be provided with huge amounts of power. The power mainly comes from the solar panels as the sun is always shining on the moon, from our oil pumps.

Air:
Air is provided as we have tunnel passageways and bubbles which trap the oxygen from the main centre base. This helps all the astronauts to circulate through the base without a suit and enough oxygen.
For protection our base is strategically based around mountains, so it is secure and protected from outer dangers.

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

A day on our moon consists of waking up in the morning in the bedroom of our facility bubble living quarters at 5:00. Then eat in the dining room and start going off to the gym. Then make sure the crops are watered and see if all the water pumps are functioning well. After lunch the astronauts work on the analytics of the moon surface and start scanning the moon for new data on the computer. Next the astronauts test what crops will react well and provide a good amount of energy. They also test what objects are the most durable for the base. They then go eat and go to sleep as it is very tiring at around 23:00 when they have done everything needed.
