Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Translation:

Our lunar camp is called Shackleton, because that is the crater in which it is located.
In the camp there is a large capsule with two floors. On the ground floor there is the dining room and the kitchen and on the upper floor a small games room and the computer room where the surroundings are controlled: the solar panels.
-There are three rooms with two beds each, in each room there is a bathroom.
There is also a gym and a cinema room. All rooms are linked to the largest capsule via tubes.
-On the outside there is a capsule that is where the infirmary is. Outside there are also several rows of solar panels, a garden with plants and there is a system to control the planets of the solar system during their stay on the moon. Next to the garden there is frozen water.

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Translation:

Our astronaut wants to go to the moon because it is his dream and he can only do it once and because he has to do an investigation to find out if there could ever have been life.

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

Translation:

We want to build our lunar camp in Shackleton crater because the edge of the crater is exposed to sunlight almost continuously, therefore the solar panels will always be charged.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

Translation:

What we can use are the elements known to be present on the lunar surface include but are not limited to hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), silicon (Si), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), calcium ( Ca), aluminum (Al), manganese (Mn) and titanium (Ti).

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

Translation:

All the rooms in our camp are protected by capsules that protect the astronauts from solar radiation and meteorites.

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Translation:

They will obtain energy thanks to the solar panels. They will obtain food thanks to the orchard. They will obtain water thanks to the ice. On the Moon there is no air to breathe. However, there is a very thin layer of gases on the surface that can almost be called the atmosphere.

Original Text:

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

Translation:

It is prepared with a chair that simulates the conditions of space and doing exercises.
