3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.
Our Moon camp protects the astronauts thanks to a pyramid. The pyramid is 20cm thick. The base is underground because when the meteorites fall and hit the base, then the food , energy and researches will be protected.
On the pyramid, there are plants. The plants can be used as food or medicine.
The astronauts can exit from the base of the pyramid or below the base through tunnels and elevators.
3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.
Water : Water will be transported in very large quantity from the Earth. This water will be stored in the moon camp. We thought about installing a machine like ECLSS in the ISS. This machine will recycle the astronauts’ urine into water but it will not be exactly like the ECLSS because it uses a lot of power.
Food : At the beginning of the mission, the totality of the food will be provided from the Earth. 2-3 months later the production of the vegetables will start. The production will be in the underground of the moon and produced by light. The other food will be in cans of food.
Power : A little part of the power will be provided from the Earth. Another part will be produced by solar panels. The solar panels will be in the poles because there is always sunshine. They will be protected from meteorites by the triangle dome.
Air : Air will be provided from the Earth. A little part of the air will be recycled with ECLSS like in the ISS. The astronauts will use oxygen masks to go outside of the camp. The camp will be regularly supplied in air.
Protection : We will use a triangle dome with 20 centimeters of polyethylene to protect the camp from meteorites.
