Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

We tried to do a simple design for easy deployment. We have some houses to live, solar panels, storage, trees, a greenhouse to grow some crops, two lasers to protect from asteroids, a station for a rocket and a atractor of water from ice. Everything is connected to storage if it produces something such as oxígeno or electricity, we don’t want anything to go to waste.

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Because my astronaut is willing to do anything to make a change in the world we live in exploring and studying new things.

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

On the lunar pole
That way the sun will never set and the solar panels will always produce energy. And the plants will benefit too.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

We will need to bring all the machinery from earth and some starting energy for a few weeks at least. Then I would use the machine that stracts water from ice and purify the water in one of the houses wich is a lab (the tallest one) for oxigen we have the trees and for electricity we have the solar panel. The trees and crops will extract the nutrients from the waste of the astronauts. The oxygen, waste, food, water and electricity will be storaged.

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

The houses are fully waterproof, and inside of them there will be a microclimate comfortable for the astronauts to live in. We will also bring supplies from earth to replace the damaged machines. And if there is an asteroid threat the lasers will do the job.

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

For air we have the trees, for food we have the crops, for water we have the water extractor, for energy we have the solar panels, for CO2 we haven’t the waste of the astronauts and for compost the astronauts too.

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

First of all a fiscal training, the astronauts need to be fit and strong to carry the suits and more stuff. Then they well have to pass a mental exam because in the moon, they will have to rely on themselves. Next the basic physics and chemistry knowledge for an astronaut and how the machines work.
