Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Translation:

The ideas for the “Moon Scouts” came about when our teacher told us about a contest and sparked our interest in 3D design.

With all our enthusiasm, effort and creativity we have come to design a wonderful greenhouse, efficient solar panels to capture energy and a rocket to travel quickly and safely…

Original Text:

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Translation:

Our intrepid astronauts will travel to the Moon to investigate the hidden part of the satellite and its gigantic craters. They will also investigate and extract minerals to learn about their properties and benefits for humans.

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar lava tubes

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

Translation:

The “Lunar Explorers” have thought that the best place to live on the Moon is its lava tubes since they do not have such extreme temperatures and both the capsule and the astronauts will be protected from dangerous meteorites and solar rays.

Original Text:

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

Translation:

Some light materials can be transported from Earth and others will be mined on the satellite itself. There will also be a huge 3D printer with which we can print the pieces designed for the capsule or the greenhouse. The design of the house will be circular with a greenhouse on the outside. Inside you will have a well-equipped laboratory, a gym adapted to weightlessness, a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and, finally, a swimming pool.

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

Translation:

To protect our capsule from meteorites and radiation, we are going to build it with polyethylene, a flexible and resistant material.

Original Text:

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Translation:

Our astronauts will carry food to survive a year. They will also take seeds to plant in the lunar greenhouse which will provide us with oxygen and food. From the regolith of the Moon we will be able to obtain oxygen necessary for life on the Moon. In addition, the greenhouse will provide us with air as well as the necessary healthy food for the astronauts. Solar energy will be captured with highly efficient solar panels and stored in huge batteries.

Original Text:

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

Translation:

Our astronauts will physically train in a room with little gravity and in a swimming pool. They will also carry out hard training to improve their aerobic capacity.
