Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Translation:

This base is designed to simulate life conditions on earth by simulating a replica that maintains its gravitational center.

The oval shape of the main structure helps to achieve this effect and maintains the comfort of having a familiar level of gravity.

The base has other infrastructures, such as:

  • An elevator that allows entry.
  • Solar panels that use sunlight as an energy source.
  • Supports in the form of braces that support the main structure.
  • A ship designed for important missions, such as gathering materials and surveying the terrain.
  • To communicate news, advances or discoveries, the settlement has a specific antenna.

Original Text:

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Translation:

To carry out tasks of collecting materials and inspecting the land.

Original Text:

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

Translation:

Because they are the most difficult areas to visualize from the earth, it is where it has been discovered that there are deposits of water ice and where solar radiation hardly reaches.

Original Text:

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

Translation:

The idea is to take 3D printers and build it with the material that is on the moon, being part of the research process.

Original Text:

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

Translation:

We have designed a fairly solid and compact main build for this purpose. The inverted oval shape is intended to provide, however, visual lightness.

Original Text:

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Translation:

For access to water, it would be extracted from the ice deposits that have been discovered at the lunar poles.

For access to oxygen, it would be drawn from within the moon’s surface, where oxygen has been found to exist.

The food would be dehydrated so that it lasts as long as possible.

Original Text:

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

Translation:

Well, in addition to the technical issues, which are essential, I would train them in managing emotions, since it must be very hard to be there in a completely different environment, uncertain and far from your family and friends.

Original Text:
