Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

 

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Our moon camp is packed with a ton of space for our astronauts to feel at home. The astronauts have homes where they can relax, and do basic necessities. They also have places for work, that includes a laboratory, and a place for communication. Also while staying on the moon our astronauts need to keep their health and body in good shape, so for that, we have a space for exercising. For their basic needs, we have a rover that collects water from the poles and brings the water to the moon camp. On top of that we have greenhouses that grow the basic vegetables and fruits.

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Our astronauts are absolute inquirers, they are explorers that want to discover, learn and explore the moon, our moon camp has all the necessities for that. It protects them from the harsh moon atmosphere and lets them connect, and communicate with people on earth. So that is why our astronauts would like to go to the moon and build our moon camp.

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

We chose this location, because the lunar poles have water in them, and the rover we 3d-modeled wouldn‘t have to travel far. They also have craters, so the sunlight wouldn‘t really reach it, but it would be enough for our plants.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

We’re planning to build our moon camp using various resources on the moon, for example lunar soil, which would help us build the basics, like buildings. Also we would regolith and also we could build the various buildings. But of course we would need a lot of resources from earth. Like electronics ,materials to build furniture, seeds, fertilizers, and etc. We know it would be hard to transport a lot of resources, so we would measure them very accurately, so we wouldn’t waste any space on the space ship

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

For the protection of the astronauts we have a few systems that protect them. The most noticeable system is the globes around the work and living spaces, they protect from meteorites, various moon radiation, and the harsh temperatures that are on the moon. The globes have heating and cooling systems that will help the astronauts maintain a good temperature in their home. Also the globe darkens and lightens when it needs to.

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Firstly, they will bring as much as possible basic needs from earth. And on the moon, we will have water rovers which will help us bring water from the moon. Water rovers will have a long tube which will vacuum water from moon rocks. All the water will be placed in water buckets. For food, we will have greenhouses, which will include vegetables, fruits and other eatable plants. There will be three of them. For O2, astronauts will be wearing their costumes with oxygen canisters and their work and living places will have air cleaners. For power, our moon camp will have solar panels, which will help energy to come to us.

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

We would of course include a lot of physical training, like cardio, weight-lifting etc.. But also going to the moon could be harsh on your mental health. So we would do a lot of training for the mental well-being of astronauts. We would have a lot of machines that would help prepare them for the flight. Cause it can be extremely physically exhausting.
