Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

I have made an complete lunar base that provides everything for a livable enviroment. It’s a 3d printed shell with inflatable plastic bubbles connected to each other. The whole structure contains 7 bubbles. It has a lab, bio lab, coms, sport center, storage, central pump, sleeping room and repair station. The project also includes a moon rover, 2 driving 3d printers and 3 mining robots. The structuree is powered with solar energy. We can proces the ice found on the moon into water, oxygen and hydrogen as fuel. the shell itself is made from moon dust and extreme heat from the sun.

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

To research the growth of plants from earth on the moon and to build an intersection to Mars. They also want to see Earth from the moon and have a bit of fun!

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

The lunar poles have the most chance to contain ice. They contain viable resources to sustain life.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

First we have to drop of the robot miners and 3d printers on the lunar poles. Then the 3d printes will print the shell so protect the astronauts. The miners will make a safe landing pad so no moon dust will get to the moon base and mine for moon ice. When that’s done we can send the bubbles and infrastructure. The infrastructure will contain the proccesors, the pipes to transport oxygen, water and hydrogen, the furniture, the airlock and suits. The airlock will be installed and then the bubbles will be blown up with oxygen for an atmosphere inside. The pippes will lead to the central pump in the middle and filter the water and oxygen.

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

Like explained the shell created out of moondust will protect the astronauts agains smaller astroids, radiation and will keep the place cool. The airlock is the only thing made from steel so it will be very secure.

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Like explained the mining robots will mine for lunar ice. once found it will be proccesed in the proccesers to make water, oxygen and hydrogen as fuel. 10 % of the oxygen will be given to the hydrogen because it will not ignite without it. The oxygen and water will go to the central pump inside the base and will filter small dust particles and reuse the carbon as a bit less oxygen. For power we use solar pannels. The food will be grown from stacked ground petles.

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

They schould all know how to fix basic things lika an leake on the suit, the robots / rover, basic electronics and know how to grow plants.
