Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Our moon camp is good. It works. Everything is covered with glass to not be fazed by the radiation. You will have constant sources of water, and electricity. It is good for living and working. First of all, we have living facilities. This is a facility where all the astronauts live, eat, sleep, rest, communicate with others, etc. The recycling system is important in our moon camp because we need to recycle trash and there are no endless materials so, it is necessary to recycle. The energy source is also one of the most important things in our moon camp because we need the energy to power our living and working facilities. We have to be protected from different kinds of dangerous asteroids, radiation, etc. so that is why we have a glass globe around our moon camp. Working facilities are important for testing and experiments. Using local materials, we created drills that harvest ice and moon soul.

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

Our astronauts will want to build a moon camp because the Earth is dying because of climate change and we need to find a place to live after the Earth collapses.  Our astronauts want to see outer space and live there so it will be an amazing experience for us and the astronauts. The moon is a lot easier to travel to because it is the one and only Earth‘s satellite. From the Erath to the moon is  384 400 km and from the Earth to Mars is 54.6 million km. The moon has a solid surface that is suitable to build our moon camp and other planets like Jupiter‘s surface are made out of gas and we couldn‘t live there.

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar equator

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

We chose this location because it is the place where we can fit all our objects. And it is the only place that will be capable of providing electricity it is hot and not freezing and it will be easier to cool down our moon camp to for living suitable temperatures. We also chose this living location because of its solid surface. On other planets like Jupiter its surface is made out of gas so we wouldn‘t be able to survive and build out moon camp

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

The material from Earth will be food and a lot of oxygen tanks. Food and oxygen tanks are a necessity because food is fuel for our bodies and oxygen tanks will be used to create breathable areas for astronauts. We will also take our workout equipment because in space out muscles, the metro phase is 7 times quicker than on Earth. We will also take astronaut suits for other heavy duties outside our moon camp.

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

Because of the very dangerous space asteroids that are constantly hitting the moon, we created a globe from very durable material that protects the astronauts on our moon camp. To combat the radiation we created mirrors that reflect it. You can‘t see the mirrors because they are one-sided mirrors. The spaceship is very near if there is a very bad situation and you need to escape immediately.

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

For sustainable water, we will be melting the moon‘s ice and filtering it into drinkable water. The process is not very long so we can quickly resupply our water resources. From the ice collectors, we will collect the ice and melt it at the recycling station because it heats up anything that is coming inside of it. For instance, ice comes in and water comes out.  We bring the water to the working facilities where we have a filter where it makes it drinkable. For sustainable food, we will extract the protein and other nutrients from the moon soil and make porridge. For sustainable air, we will use oxygen to build breathable facilities for astronauts to stay at. For sustainable power we have solar panels that are working 24/7

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

The training program includes; Stamina, hypertrophy, and strength training. Stamina training will be used for a healthy heart and to decrease the risk cardiovascular diseases. It also expands our lung capacity which will be used to hold in a breath when needed. Hypertrophy training bigger muscles on Earth so they don‘t lose all of their muscle because of muscle atrophy becoming a lot faster. Strength training will be used to prepare the astronauts for the physical work that they will do while living in our moon camp.
